Liam Gallagher recalls hilarious moment Sir Paul McCartney invited him for a margarita

National Margarita Day is observed on Saturday (February 22), and while it might seem obvious to share an unusual cocktail recipe, we’re returning to another type of mix-up.
Liam Gallagher, the frontman of Oasis, made a memorable appearance on Jimmy Fallon’s hit US chat show The Tonight Show in 2018 when he recalled a chance encounter with Sir Paul McCartney.
The 52-year-old Rock ‘n’ Roll Star may find it easier to get his wires crossed when he joins a band he idolizes in The Beatles, but not many people will leave him starry-eyed.
In a backstage clip Liam recounted chatting to Macca, 82, at London’s Royal Albert Hall in the programme’s Tales From Tour segment. “So I go in there and I don’t really ask people for autographs, but I thought I’d get it for my kid’s headteacher”, he quipped.
“I went in there and said, “Excuse me, Mr. Paul McCartney, is there any chance you could just sign this for us,” I said. And I’ll be out of your hair'”.
Adopting Paul’s Liverpudlian accent, Liam explained that he was then told to “come over” before being asked how he was. “I said, ‘ Yeah, I’m good – just go on and sign there”, Liam continued. “Good gig and all that stuff”.
According to the Oasis star, Paul then asked: “Why are you always rushing around? Do you like margaritas”? Liam added: “I said, ‘ I do yeah, but I’ve just eaten before I came out’. He went, ‘ No, the bloody drink, you d***head! ‘ – and that’s my tale from the touring side of business”!
Responding to the clip, one YouTube user declared: “This man needs his own reality TV show. Comedy genius GOLD”. A second commented: “Amazing story. Paul is one of Liam’s musical heroes, and it’s so funny that Paul offered him and drink, and Liam thought it was food”.
A third added: “I literally lol’d at this. You must acknowledge that Liam and Noel give hilarious interviews regardless of how you feel about Oasis as a band. Whilst a fourth admitted: “Would love to have been a fly on the wall when that happened”.
American commercial real estate agent Todd McCalla founded National Margarita Day in 2008, according to Patron Tequila. The website states that “the day was created merely to promote a more sophisticated appreciation of the beverage and share his love of margaritas.”
