Lawrence apologises for reaction to Mitchell clash

Ollie Lawrence, a bath centre, has expressed regret for his actions in the Premiership defeat suffered by Alex Mitchell.

Bath were trailing 32-31 in the 77th minute when Lawrence made a half-break and England team-mate Mitchell, with little time to react, made contact with Lawrence’s chest with his shoulder.

Despite having an open field in front of him, Lawrence slowly fell to the ground and began to hold his face as the impact brought their heads together.

Mitchell received a yellow card from the referee, but Lawrence was captured smiling as team-mate Finn Russell positioned the penalty, which the Franklin’s Gardens crowd mocked.

According to the data collected on the sidelines, Lawrence did not receive a head injury assessment because the collision lacked medical support.

Saints won 35-34 thanks to Fin Smith’s penalty with the last kick of the game.

On X, Lawrence apologized and said, “Apologise if my actions today offended anyone.”

The one who mattered, according to Northampton’s rugby director Phil Dowson, had a whistle, and Anthony Woodthorpe hit it head-on.

We are trying to get rid of the concussion risk. Although it appeared pretty innocent, the referee made the decision, which is what is still true.

With a late shoulder charge on George Hendy earlier, Lawrence earlier drew the home support’s fury, forcing the Saints full-back to leave the game just before half-time.

Woodthorpe awarded a penalty against Lawrence.

Lawrence has become a mainstay of England’s midfield, starting their past 10 Tests.
