Kim Marsh has unwittingly revealed her “real name” during a catch-up conversation with another soap star, surprising viewers.

The 48-year-old singer and actress first gained notoriety in 2001 with the smash hit ITV talent show Popstars, where she co-starred with the chart-topping band Hear ‘Say. The band members found themselves being rejected by the country after initially likable, but public attitudes toward Hear ‘Say quickly deteriorated.

However, five years later, Kym, who played Michelle Connor in the ITV soap Coronation Street, reclaimed her place in the hearts of the country. Kym and Chloe Rivers spoke on the Suffolk Sound radio station’s Morning with Chloe Rivers on Tuesday for an interview.

However, Kym was relieved to be reunited with friend and fellow soap star Michael Greco because show host Chloe Rivers was unavailable for the radio. For his role on EastEnders on EastEnders between 1998 and 2002, Beatles fans will remember 54-year-old Michael best.

Kym shared some unexpected anecdotes about her life, including what her real name is when she spoke on the program. She revealed: “I was Kimberly with an I from birth, but I changed my name as I decided it was really boring.

Because I thought it was really cool, I changed it to Kym with an ‘y’. My father began addressing me with a y after ten years. The actress then continued to reveal some details about her time on the Cobbles.

Recalling being cast on the show in 2006, she said:” I was only supposed to be in Coronation Street for four episodes, I didn’t even have a surname, I was just Michelle. Later, I became a permanent resident and adopted the surname Connor.

“When I first started, I was walking past Bill Roache in the green room and thought, “Oh my God, it’s Ken Barlow!” ‘. Beverley Callard (who played Liz McDonald) was so lovely. She really made me feel very at ease and took me under her wing.

In 2019, Kym famously quit Coronation Street, leaving her with the freedom to pursue other roles. She and Graziano Di Prima were competing on the BBC’s Strictly Come Dancing in 2022, and they won the match before being expelled from the competition in the quarter finals.

In her role as a school canteen worker and mother to the characters Preston and Tonya, Kym has played Nicky Walters since 2023 in the BBC high school drama Waterloo Road. Her relationship with Donte Charles, played by fellow soap star Adam Thomas, who previously played Adam Barton in Emmerdale from 2009 to 2018 is in her character.

In response to plans for a spectacular celebration of the soap’s 40th anniversary, Michael addressed speculation that he might reprise his role in Albert Square last month, but he later revealed that Martine McCutcheon had already sealed his fate. The actress, who is 48, previously appeared in EastEnders as Tiffany Mitchell, who was first portrayed on the soap in 1995 before the character’s death in 1999.

Michael said:” If Tiffany wasn’t killed off she would probably have gone back to Eastenders, and then they may have asked me back. They are celebrating their 40th anniversary, and they have asked a lot of people to return, but I haven’t, because my career is moving in the right direction.
