Rap duo and entrepreneurs Krept and Konan have hit back at the haters after announcing the opening of their inclusive supermarket.

The pair announced earlier this week they would be opening a supermarket in their hometown of Croydon called Saveways. The pair have partnered with entrepreneur Kaysor Ali and the establishment will be stocked with products tailored specifically to Black, Asian and ethnic communities.

Taking to Instagram, the duo shared a number of photos inside and outside the establishment alongside the caption: “We have been keeping this a secret for so long. Happy to announce our partnership with our brothers @kaysor_ali we have created a ground-breaking large-scale 15,000sqft/2 floor, diverse and inclusive world foods supermarket. Offering a unique shopping experience tailored to meet the diverse needs of the local community. ”

However, the duo were met with criticism from many who questioned their equity in the business, after searching it up on Companies House. Krept went on to explain how the venture with Konan and business partner Kaysor was part of a long term strategy.

A post circulating on social media from one Instagram user read: “This ‘collaboration’ seems a bit misleading as the company who will profit is 100% Asian owned,” as they then went on to share a Companies House link. “How will that benefit the partnership with Krept and Konan? “

Responding, the rapper penned: “Not sure if you guys understand how to navigate companies house because firstly you will see us on the confirmation statement. Or even how vested equity or franchise modelling works into a BIG long term business model. You really need to understand this before making uneducated comments. This is no small project. This is the start of something that really has the chance to put our people in a serious position of power and change. Crazy how small minded some of you can be man. Kina sad. “

Further responding to more criticism, he penned: “Do you realise we never mentioned race at all. We announced something that is just great in general. It was our black people that turned this thing into a race war. Now your saying im the one talking about black owned when im responding to the is it ‘black owned’ critics. You lot are actually sick man. ” This was in response to one user, who tweeted: “‘Black owned’ is a label giving the same exploitive systems a paint job. Make your profit and go – stop this pretence re: saving the race. I can’t stand it. “

Expanding on this, the duo recently appeared on the Winners Talking podcast, where Konan expressed: “Young black men on the news, it’s not always the most positive. When we see a positive, as the Black Community, we’re meant to just stand by them. Regardless if it makes you feel a type of way, we represent us. So we’ve got to scream that. ”

Krept then added that they wanted to focus on the positive, praising many of their fans who will be there to support the pair during their grand opening.
