Kim Kardashian has awoken a volcanic army of followers who have slammed her for seemingly showing her political leanings.

Americans endured mixed emotions on Monday as Joe Biden’s administration came to an end and Donald Trump returned to be sworn in as the 47th President of the United States. For 78-year-old Trump, he returns to the White House four years after he was last in power – and he had a glitzy inauguration ceremony at the start of the week.

During his first term in power, Trump appeared to form a close friendship with reality star Kim, 44 – who visited him in the White House and directly petitioned him to overturn criminal sentences for a number of cases that the Kardashians star felt sympathetic to. However, it seems some of Kim’s fans have forgotten that she has close ties with Trump – and they flew into fury when they saw her sharing a supportive message about returning First Lady, Melania.

On Monday, the 54-year-old former model caused a fashion stir when she arrived at the ceremony wearing a dark coat by designer Adam Lippes, and a striking hat created by Eric Javits. Taking to Instagram Stories, Kim shared a photograph of Melania at the event in her sharply designed style.

While the image was presented without comment, many of the reality star’s fans were convinced it was intended as a declaration of support for President Trump and the Republican party. Critics took to social media with vesuvian levels of anger, with one writing: “Kim kardashian posted a photo of melania trump? Yeah its clear who she voted for. “

Another commented: “Kim K posted Melania at the inauguration. I know that family must be ready to take the masks off. yeah… she can go now. “

And highlighting that Kim is a billionaire thanks to her various cosmetic and clothing brands, a comment further suggested: “Here come all the coward closet MAGA people now that it’s safe. ” And another typed: “We waiting on the rest of these celebs/rich people to come out of hiding. We know it’s the rich vs the poor atp. “

A string of celebrities were in attendance in Washington DC for Trump’s inauguration. American Idol winner Carrie Underwood had a headlining role when she performed America The Beautiful alongside the Armed Forces Choir and the US Naval Academy Glee Club moments before Trump was sworn in as the 47th president. Her set was hit by a technical glitch but she stunned those in attendance by singing acapella instead.

Rap sensation Snoop Dogg – despite slamming celebrities that considered going to Trump’s 2017 inauguration – appeared proud to attend the 2025 ceremony and performed at the Crypto Ball in Washington DC. Fellow rap star Nelly was also on the bill to take to the stage at the Liberty Inaugural Ball, and defended his choice to take part, saying: “[It is] an honour for me to perform for the president of the United States, regardless of who is in office”.

While country singers Billy Ray Cyrus and Kid Rock were involved in various inauguration-related activities. Meanwhile, fellow country singer Jason Aldean, singer and saxophonist Lee Greenwood, and The Village People all had performance duties lined up for Monday night at The Liberty Ball.
