Kerry Katona’s strict rules for daughter Heidi as she turns 18
Heidi, her daughter, is gearing up for her 18th birthday next month, making her a big family milestone. The former Atomic Kitten star has revealed that she wants Heidi to accept independence and assume responsibility for her future and what expectations she’s putting on her daughter as she enters adulthood.
Heidi is Kerry’s third child and her first with ex-husband Mark Croft, while Molly, 21, and Lilly-Sue, are her daughters from her marriage to Brian McFadden, and eight-year-old DJ from her marriage with the late George Kay. speaking in her own voice only, OK! column, Kerry explained: “I can’t believe Heidi is going to be 18, it’s crazy. I hope she’ll become more independent – I’m trying to make it clear that at 18 she needs to be making her own money and won’t be my responsibility”.
The mum-of-five, who has always been open about her love and devotion to her kids, added that she’s worked hard to provide them with everything they’ve needed. Now, though, she’s keen for Heidi to take charge of her life and start standing on her own two feet.
The milestone significantly brings the family together. Kerry revealed that her eldest daughter, Lilly, recently made a surprise trip from Ireland to visit her. “Last week, Lilly surprised me by visiting from Ireland, which was amazing! I cried my eyes out, I really wasn’t expecting it”, she said.
Lilly, who turns 22 this week and will be returning to Ireland for her special day, had a birthday meal for the emotional reunion. The good news is, she’ll be returning next month for Heidi’s big celebration, so the family can mark the occasion together.
Kerry also acknowledged that as her children get older, she has been considering her own future. She is considering moving down South, where many of her friends and work commitments are located, to become more close to her pal Katie Price. However, with her kids still at home, she’s decided to stay put for now. “I anticipated that my kids would fly the nest this year, but I believe I’ll be staying here for a while”! she joked.
As Heidi’s 18th approaches, it’s clear that Kerry’s priority is helping her daughter prepare for the future. In more ways than one way, Heidi might be emulating her mother’s example. A gifted singer, she previously appeared on The Voice Kids, in 2020, where she was put in Paloma Faith ‘ s team – and impressed the judges.
Last year, Kerry shared that after Heidi finishes her GCSEs, she’s set to spread her wings and join a performing arts school in Liverpool. Heidi, a daughter of the mother, will be moving to Liverpool to study performing arts after finishing her GCSEs this summer, and the mother admitted that she is not yet ready to say goodbye.
