Kerry Katona’s emotional turmoil as she admits this ‘could be the end’ for her hospitalised mum

After suffering from a health emergency, Kerry Katona has recently spent the last week at the bedside of her mother Sue. Kerry was terrified for the life of her mother when doctors discovered numerous blood clots and heart damage.

“I am really, really scared that this is it, I could lose her. I’ve been sleeping all night and spending my entire time in the hospital with my mother because it has been a terrible week. Kerry shared with OK! that she wants to spend every last minute with her. The former Atomic Kitten star had urged Sue to seek medical advice after seeing her mother’s declining health.

Kerry, however, staged an “intervention” last week to make sure her mother received the care she needed because she was unable to walk. Now, the mum-of-five is grateful for her insistence, acknowledging that her quick thinking may have saved her mum’s life. If I hadn’t taken her that night, she would have passed away, according to the doctors. I basically saved her life. But now it’s worrying, because I don’t know how long for”.

Two blood clots in Sue’s lungs and heart issues were discovered by doctors when she was taken to the hospital. She currently takes blood thinners, but the drugs make her more likely to experience brain bleed and a stroke. It’s all very touch and go”, shares a tearful Kerry, who has been spending every day at the hospital by her mum’s bedside.

Kerry’s mother and her relationship have been difficult. Sue has spent many years battling mental health issues and drug addictions. Kerry spent her first year of high school moving around the system, where she spent her time when Sue was deemed unfit to look after her.

Kerry made it known in September that her birthday that month is a “tough” time for her because it brings back memories from those days. I believe it is because I was placed in a foster home a few days after my 13th birthday. She admitted that she’ll never forget receiving birthday presents for my mother that year, which I believe were around £35. “I get quite depressed around my birthday, so I don’t want to do much for it. I always say that Mother’s Day is my day. I like to celebrate then”.

Kerry has previously reminisced about a terrifying incident from her teenage years and her troubled past with her mother. My mother and I had our first drug,” she said. I was 14. The star described the fear and pain of the situation: “It’s so hard, I wanted to run for the hills when the doctors thought she was going to die, it’s just scary. But you show up for family and that’s what I’ve been doing. I’m making a smile for her as I leave the hospital, but I’m terrified. What if I’m sleeping in the bed she might never return to while I’m staying at her apartment to look after her cat?

Amidst the crisis, Kerry also feels the absence of her children, as she’s away from her five kids and fiancé Ryan Mahoney during this family emergency. Her two eldest daughters Molly, 23, and Lilly-Sue, 21, are in Ireland, while Heidi, 17, Max, 16, and DJ, 10, stay at their Cheshire home with Ryan. Kerry confessed that the isolation has been overwhelming, saying, “I do feel very alone in all of this. I feel like I have to protect my mother while also being able to wrap my arms around myself. The other night, I only had 45 minutes of sleep, and that was it. It’s horrible, just going over everything in your head”.

Kerry has been comforted by messages from old school friends checking in on her. “I’ve received messages from people I went to school with to check on me, which is really nice. It shows who your true friends are, times like these. It’s nice to talk to people who know my mother because they have seen her at her best since I was a young child.

Kerry’s daughter Lilly has also flown in from Ireland to offer support. The mother-of-five has been keeping her Instagram followers updated on her mum’s condition, sharing videos from the hospital as they try to stay positive. For now, she’s put her work on hold, cancelling all plans until her mum’s situation becomes clearer. “I’ve cancelled all of my work. We won’t know what’s happening with my mother until I know.

Doctors have warned that placing Sue on life support would be a permanent measure due to the uncertainty. “Right now, we don’t know what will happen. We have had conversations with the doctors where they’ve said, ‘ Sue, if we put you on life support, you won’t ever come off it. ‘ Due to the heart damage she has sustained, they have said they can’t revive her. It’s been absolutely awful. So, right now, I’m just hoping and praying that she comes through this”.
