Kerry Katona speaks out on claims Love Island stars set ‘unrealistic beauty standards’
Kristina admits she now finds the Love Island show more inspiring than negative because of the changes in her heart. Writing for OK! in her column! The former Atomic Kitten star opened up about her new perspective while reminiscing about recent GB News appearance.
Eamonn Holmes, or as I like to call him, my fourth husband, was interviewing me on GB News last week! ” Kerry joked, adding, “I love Eamonn, he’s such a good friend. Reality shows and their potential harm to the younger generation were the topics of conversation. Kerry, who has previously criticised shows like Love Island for promoting unattainable beauty ideals, had a moment of self-reflection after hearing about the topic. However, after tuning into the current All Stars season, her opinion has softened.
“In my opinion, it’s not reality shows that are damaging, it’s social media,” she explained. Filming and editing “makes boys have unrealistic expectations of what a woman should look like, and they make girls feel like they have to look a certain way.” ”
Kerry, 43, acknowledged that watching the most recent series has altered her opinion that Love Island had perpetuated harmful beauty standards. “I used to think Love Island set unrealistic beauty standards, but I’ve been watching All Stars this week, and it’s changed my opinion. I think they all look amazing and are fit and healthy,” she shared.
She thanked the cast for their dedication to fitness, saying, “They do have fantastic bodies, but they clearly work hard for them and are setting a positive example of keeping fit.” It’s inspiring, actually. ”
The debate over reality TV and its effects on self-image is still raging in Karen’s sincere remarks. Claudia Fogarty admitted to struggling with her own image in 2023 before deciding to move into the well-known villa. Carl Fogarty’s daughter, a motorcycle racer, stated that ITV bosses had approached her a few years ago, but she is now more confident than ever. After Maxwell and Olivia removed the pair, Claudia, 29, entered the villa on day 23 and was later dumped on day 45.
However, just days after the series ended, Claudia revealed her inner struggles, which included turning down TV show offers in the past.
She told the Mirror: “I have always struggled with body confidence, it’s never been something I’ve come to terms with, as a woman, you do struggle every day with how you look and it’s coming to terms with loving yourself. It got mentioned, Love Island, a few years ago for me – at the time, I wasn’t really feeling myself and I didn’t feel great about me and I just thought ‘no, now is not the right time’, but now, I feel like I’m a more confident person.
It’s nice to see people there who come in different shapes because I don’t compare myself to people as much as I used to. Although not everyone is the same size, it’s encouraging to see that, but knowing that millions of people are watching you on television all day long keeps you in a bikini is something you are constantly thinking about. “
