Strictly Come Dancing professional dancer Katya Jones has shared her heartbreak over Wynne Evans being axed from the tour.
The opera singer and GoCompare advert star agreed to step back from the tour after he was caught making a vile sexual jibe at a co-star. He confirmed the axe last night after days of speculation surrounding his future on the tour, which still has 12 dates left. Evans said he will “take some time out” from his BBC radio show and the Strictly Come Dancing live tour “to prioritise my wellbeing”.
Katya broke her social media silence as she came to Evans’ defence. Last night she shared Evans’ statement and added: “Let’s show humanity and consideration. I will miss you my darling boy.” She later posted a photo of Evans on stage on the Strictly tour as she wrote: “Really missed this tonight.”
Evans said in a statement: “I’ve agreed with the BBC that I’ll take some time out from my radio show and the Strictly Live tour, as well as my other public commitments, to prioritise my wellbeing. I am deeply sorry for the pain my inappropriate actions have caused, and plan to take this time for self-reflection.

“Apologies to those I won’t get to see at the remaining performances and I’m grateful to my fellow tour gang for all the amazing support they have given me.” He was filmed making an inappropriate sexual comment to Janette Manrara, who acts as host on the tour, when she walked over to the group for a photo at the tour’s press call.
Evans was heard singing: “Go Compare,” before adding: “Not too close to Jamie [Borthwick].” He then was heard using the demeaning term “spit roast” in reference to a lewd sexual act. Just minutes before his inappropriate remark, Evans had told Mirror that dance partner Katya “puts up with me”.
He spoke about being on tour with Katya prior to the controversial moment and said: “It is really nice, it is lovely. She is lovely, she is very fun and she puts up with me which is very hard.” Evans also reflected on his time on Strictly and said: “I really enjoyed my time on Strictly, it was really good. I had a great time. Leant a new skill, made a new friend. Not Katya. Obviously Jamie, no Katya. It was just brilliant. It was a really uplifting experience and one of personal growth.”
Following the release of the video, Evans told the Mirror: “My language was inappropriate and unacceptable, for which I sincerely apologise.” It has since been claimed Evans split up with his girlfriend Liz Brookers amid the scandal. The father of two now faces pressure to shelve his new travelogue, Wynne & Joanna: All At Sea, with Gavin & Stacey actress Joanna Page. He also risks losing the six-figure salary as the face of price comparison company GoCompare – the job which made his name in 2009.
