Donald Trump has chosen The Princess of Wales as the recipient of a significant award.

Kate and nine other candidates were announced earlier this week as TIME magazine’s 2024 Person of the Year. The publication has named the person or organization it believes has had the biggest impact on the world over the past year, whether for good or bad. However, it was revealed today that the newly elected president-elect, who has won a second term in office, has won the award.

The princess’ entry on TIME’s shortlist came after she “made international headlines this year and sparked a conversation about privacy and health for public figures.” Kate was nominated for the award several years after her husband and sister-in-law Meghan were nominated for it in 2018. However, she ultimately lost out on the award, which went to killed and imprisoned journalists dubbed “the guardians”.

Following her abdominal surgery in January, Kate’s recovery from the public eye underwent a rollercoaster of a ride. In the interim, cruel conspiracy theories began to surface. After receiving a cancer diagnosis, she later revealed that she had received preventative chemotherapy and that she had started a very gradual transition to public life, playing her Christmas carols on Friday at Westminster Abbey and Trooping the Colour on Saturday.

Kate said she “didn’t know” what this year would bring just 12 months ago during a service on Friday. The 42-year-old, who is returning to public events gradually after finishing her cancer treatment about four months ago, was captured on camera saying to singer Paloma Faith, “I didn’t know this year would be the year I’ve just had.” When Faith replied “the unplanned”, Kate said: “The unplanned, exactly. However, I believe that many people encountered such difficult circumstances this year.

The princess’s fourth appearance at Westminster Abbey was in recognition of the positive traits of many and to promote the capital’s festivities. Kate will have to face fierce competition from nine other candidates to win the coveted award this year. Others nominated were Kamala Harry, who failed in her bid to become America’s first female president, and billionaire Elon Musk.

Both Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell were in the running for president, along with Yulia Navalnaya, the wife of Russian dissident Alexei Navalny, who passed away in February. Claudia Sheinbaum, the first woman president of Mexico, and podcaster Joe Rogan, both made the shortlist. Mark Zuckerberg, the billionaire and Facebook CEO, made the shortlist.
