‘It’s very mechanical!’ Kate Hudson talks sex scenes and ‘romantic kisses’ with Matthew McConaughey as she hints a How To Lose A Guy In 10 Days sequel COULD take place
Kate Hudson has described filming sex scenes as ‘very mechanical’ and her kisses with Matthew McConaughey as ‘romantic’… as she hinted at making a sequel to How To Lose A Guy In 10 Days.
The LA-born actress, 43, starred in various rom-com films with the Texan heartthrob, 53, over the years, including the cult favourite which sees her play Andie, and he Benjamin, 20 years ago.
But when discussing how ‘mechanical’ sex scenes are when filmed with Stormzy on the Jonathan Ross show, Kate gave the inside scoop to her thoughts on a second edition to their hit movie.
Discussing the fact that it’s 20 years since How To Lose A Guy In 10 Days Kate says of whether she’d do a sequel: ‘We both [me and Matthew McConaughey] have the same feeling about it; if for some reason a great idea came across our desk and it read well, yeah I would totally revisit it.
‘I love working with Matthew. I don’t know… I’m sure it would start with marital conflict. Or maybe… I have no idea. How To Lose A Husband in 20 Years…?’
The pair also did a film together in 2008, called Fool’s Gold, where they play Tess and Finn, an estranged husband and wife who rediscover their love for one another after heading on an adventure to find lost treasure.
Speaking about kissing in Fool’s Gold, she says: ‘That was definitely not that fun to shoot.
‘Ocean, swimming and kissing is not always pleasant. Things happen in the ocean, like yuckiness… we’re like treading water trying to stay above water.’
She adds: ‘Matthew and I have had very romantic kisses and then we’ve had very non-romantic kisses. So a sequel would really bring some interesting things.’
The actress added: ‘I like how real Matthew is… we have a little bit of a fighting spirit with each other, we know how to push each other’s buttons.
‘We work hard, play hard. To me, Matthew’s such an original and so authentically who you think he is, is who he is.’
Kate was joined on the Jonathan Ross couch with rapper Stormzy, singer Joan Armatrading and comedian Róisín Conaty.
She donned a fuchsia pink strapless dress with black tights, and wore her blonde tresses in a glamorous bouncy curl and a full face of makeup.
On filming romantic scenes himself, Stormzy spoke of his Hide & Seek video: ‘Me and the team said it needs to be a high standard actor. I’m a rubbish actor.
‘The idea of me going on set with someone that’s awkward and I’m awkward. We got Saffron [Hocking] in and she’s a true professional. She made me really comfortable and led the whole thing.’
Stormzy then asks Kate: ‘When I see sex scenes I’m like, “How do you lot do that?” Of course it’s your job but… as your average punter, it looks extremely difficult. Can there be… arousal… everyone’s thought it!’
Kate laughs: ‘Interesting question. I think it’s so mechanical and there’s so many people around.
‘Usually they close the set and you kind of have to talk it out and the boys wear belts. It’s very… tucked.
‘It kind of takes the fun out of it, I guess. Sometimes it’s more enjoyable than other times. It just depends on the circumstance and the safety that you feel with that actor and how safe the space feels. It can get awkward.’
Kate also speaks about her mum Goldie Hawn and what she’s like as a grandmother: ‘She’s hands on, ish… she’s like more of a tornado. She comes in, tornados in like rainbows and flowers and happiness and then she’s gone.
‘And you’re like, “Where did mum go?” All the fun stuff. We’re very co-dependent [she lives nearby].’
She adds: ‘She’s seven blocks from me. I actually bought the house I grew up in. My mum sold the house, we moved into another house, 12 years later I bought back my mum’s house. Such happy memories.’
Kate Hudson speaks about starring in Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery alongside Daniel Craig: ‘He’s so funny. His physical comedy. I was really surprised how comedic he is in his body. He’s quite goofy. I didn’t know Daniel at all and I only know him through his Bond films. He’s so great.’
After Jonathan teases that the next Bond is Stormzy, he reacts: ‘No, no, no… I’d be so s***. “Yo, I’m Bond”. It’s not the one. I wish I could.’
Asked about Daniel Craig’s accent, Kate says: ‘He does it great. He works really hard at it too. He comes to set and he can go in and out of it so he doesn’t have to stay in it.’
