Kano Govt Urges Authorities To Abide By Appeal Court’s Ruling On Emirate Council Dispute

The Supreme Court of Appeal’s recent decision, which resolved the long-standing dispute over the reforms of the Emirate Council, has been fully complied with by the Kano State government.

A delegation of top government officials, including the Attorney General and Justice Commissioner, Hon., convened for a press conference on Saturday at the NUJ Press Center in Kano. Ibrahim Adamu, the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Hon. Musa Bello, and the Commissioner for Information, Hon. Halima Yusuf stressed the importance of strict adherence to the decision.

The Federal High Court’s earlier decisions were overturned by the Court of Appeal’s Abuja Division, which upheld the Kano State Government’s decisions regarding chieftaincy appointments and the state’s traditional institutions’ restructuring.

“All decisions, pronouncements, and orders made by the Federal High Court in this matter have been quashed and set aside”, said Hon. Ibrahim Adamu. The Kano State House of Assembly’s law was upheld, and the appellate court has fully legalized all actions taken by the governor in accordance with it.

The decision, according to the government, validates its reforms and establishes a precedent for keeping constitutional boundaries in chieftainship matters.

Hon. “We urge all relevant authorities and stakeholders to uphold this judgment and take appropriate action.” Musa Bello stated. In order to maintain peace, harmony, and the rule of law in our beloved state, it is crucial to give the ruling full effect.

The government also stressed the value of cooperation between all parties as it continued to support unity and development in Kano.

“This is a victory for justice and fairness”, Hon. Halima Yusuf added. We urge everyone to work with the government to ensure that all emirates’ reforms are successful in achieving their desired outcomes, including fair representation and inclusive governance.
