Kamala Harris concedes election but vows to fight on

After a frantic campaign that failed to stop Republican Donald Trump’s resumption in office, US Vice President Kamala Harris delivered a televised concession speech to the nation.

“While I concede this election, I do not concede the fight that fuelled this campaign”, she told supporters on Wednesday at her alma mater, Howard University, a historically Black college.

Harris pledged to fight “for the dignity that all people deserve” and continue to fight for women’s rights and gun violence.

She claimed to have called President-elect Trump, congratulated him on his victory, and made a promise to facilitate a peaceful transfer of power.

Harris addressed a crowd that included former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, aides in President Joe Biden’s White House, and thousands of fans who listened to a soundtrack that included Beyonce’s Run the World (Girls) and Tye Tribbett’s We Gon ‘ Be Alright.

Her running mate, Minnesota Governor Tim Walz, also joined the crowd.

After Biden stepped down and reaped newfound enthusiasm and money for the Democratic ticket in July, Harris&nbsp struggled to address voters’ concerns about the economy and immigration. He rose to the top of the Democratic ticket in July.

Trump won more popular votes in the majority of the country than he did in 2020, and Democrats failed to secure important battleground states that decide elections, giving her a resounding defeat.
