Juventus Into Serie A Champions League Spots With Victory Over AC Milan

As leaders Napoli gear up for a significant clash against title rivals Atalanta, Juventus moved into the Champions League on Saturday after defeating AC Milan 2-0.

Juventus clinched a deserved victory in Turin thanks to Samuel Mbangula and Timothy Weah’s goals in five second-half goals, moving them one point clear of Lazio at Verona on Sunday.

With Saturday’s win, Juve’s eighth of 21 matches in Italy’s top flight, they had already recorded three straight draws, which had already tallied their 13 league stalemates.

“The boys are growing, match after match, and getting to the point that they can put in a performance like the one they did tonight”, said Motta.

“That’s because they all work really hard every day… today’s win is the reward”.

Milan are currently six points clear of the top four, but they still have a game in hand at Bologna due to a postponed October flooding that needs to be rescheduled.

And eight minutes later, Juve goalkeeper Michele Di Gregorio successfully pushed away Rafael Leao’s powerful effort before a number of evasive blocks kept a number of rebound shots adrift.

However, Juve almost immediately took the lead after the break, and Mike Maignan was hardly a fan when Teun Koopmeiners fired straight at the France goalkeeper with the rest of the goal gaping after Weah’s well-placed effort after pushing out.

However, Maignan was unable to stop himself in the 59th minute when Mbangula’s speculative shot wildly off Emerson Royal and flew into the Milan net.

And five minutes later, 25 years after winning the Ballon d’Or at Milan against Juve, substitute Weah scored the winner for Milan in the match between Juventus and his father.

Later, Atalanta travel to Napoli in an effort to close the four-point deficit that keeps them within five straight victories.

Bologna defeated Monza 3-1 to end their run of six defeats in seven games, continuing their revival.

Vincenzo Italiano’s side bounced back from Daniel Maldini’s fourth-minute opener for the away side with strikes from Santiago Castro, Jens Odgaard and Riccardo Orsolini, goals which moved Bologna up to sixth on 33 points, four points behind Juve.
