Just in: Abuja Explosion: CNG Tanker Blast Raises Fears of Multiple Fatalities


A compressed natural gas (CNG) tanker burst into flames near Karou Bridge on Wednesday night in Abuja, injuring or killing unnamed people.
A frantic voice pleading for assistance in a CNG tanker explosion left drivers trapped and engulfed in the inferno, according to an eyewitness’ chilling video.
The tanker truck lost control near Karu Bridge, which is near the intersection of Kugbo and Nyanya along the Abuja-Keffi Expressway, according to witnesses who spoke to a Persecondnews correspondent at the scene.
Witnesses gathered safely away from the area to watch in horror as the massive fire spread across it, creating a dramatic and terrifying spectacle, according to the correspondent.
Additionally, it temporarily halted both traffic for vehicles and people.
The explosion occurred on Wednesday at around 7:14 p.m., according to the Federal Capital Territory Emergency Management Department (FEMD).

The accident occurred when the CNG truck driver lost control of the bridge there, according to Mr. Mark Nyam, the head of FEMA’s forecasting, response, and mitigation division, by colliding with other drivers and creating an explosion.
He claimed that the scene has been aided by search and rescue teams from the Federal Fire Service, the Federal Fire Service, the Federal Fire Service, the Nigeria Police Force, and the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA).
