Jade Thirlwall’s boyfriend confronted Noel Gallagher at Glastonbury over rude comments
Rizzle Kicks legend Jordan Stephens confronted Noel Gallagher, 57, at Glastonbury after the Oasis singer took a nasty swipe at his girlfriend’s band.
Jade Thirlwall, 32, has been looking back on the Wonderwall hitmaker’s savage quips about her band Little Mix four years ago and revealed how her boyfriend Jordan decided to front Noel in person about the comments, only to receive an expletive outburst in response.
After Little Mix made history at The Brit Awards in May 2021, Noel felt compelled to share his views on Black Magic singers being the first all-female group to win the British Group award. The ageing rocker suggested that the award-winning girl band were “not in the same league as Oasis” and implied their record-breaking victory pointed to an issue within the music industry.
During an episode of Never Mind the Buzzcocks the same year, Jade addressed the unsolicited critique from the veteran rocker and issued an hilarious putdown. Speaking to Louis Theroux on his self-titled podcast, delved further into her band’s feud with the dad-of-three.
“Well, we’re very different bands, so I’ll give him that to that respect,” the Angel of My Dreams singer admits to the documentary maker. We’re very, you know, we’re a pop girl band. Yeah. I don’t know why he was comparing us, actually. ” Louis then ponders if Noel made the comment “for the clicks.
“I think so,” Jade muses. “I think he loves a little confrontation, doesn’t he, that one. ” The singer, who also discusses being ghosted by Harry Styles during the chat with Louis, then adds: “You can’t really argue with that, do you know what I mean? And I also kind of, um, love that I’ve ended up in some sort of tiff with one of the Gallaghers. I feel like, it’s the same as getting a hate tweet from Azalea Banks. “
Jade then recalls her boyfriend Jordan confronting Noel at Glastonbury. Jade and the Skip to the Good Bit singer began dating in 2020 during Covid-19 lockdown. “I seen him [Noel] at Glastonbury that year, actually,” Jade reveals during her conversation with Louis on his Spotify podcast.
“Me and me boyfriend, and Jordan and me boyfriend was like, I’m going to go over and say something. I was like, alright then, give it a go. They went over, I was like, you are really rude about my girlfriend. Do you want to apologize? He went, f*ck off! And I thought, do you know what? Fair play. “
Back in 2021, when asked about Noel’s negative comments towards herself and bandmates Perrie Edwards and Leigh-Ann Pinnock, Jade delivered a memorable and biting response during he stint on Never Mind the Buzzcocks. “Noel did [slag us off]” Jade began on the panel of the rebooted series. “Something about that we were undeserving of the Brit Award because we’re women and don’t – well we do write music – but he thinks we don’t write music. “
“Yeah, shame really,” the award-winning singer adds. “Because you know, we are definitely the most successful girl group in the country, but he’s not even the most successful performer in his family! ” Jade’s clever jibe at Noel resulted in uproarious laughter in the studio.
Little Mix made a powerful statement at the Brit Awards in May 2021 as they collected their first huge honour as a trio just months on from original member Jesy Nelson’s exit. As they accepted their award, the trio delivered a stirring speech addressing the sexism, racism, and misogyny they’ve encountered throughout their career.
Leigh-Anne said: ‘It’s not easy being a female in the UK pop industry. We’ve seen the white male dominance, misogyny, sexism, and lack of diversity. We’re proud of how we’ve stuck together, stood our ground, surrounded ourselves with strong women, and are now using our voices more than ever. ” The victorious band then went on to dedicate their award to all the girl groups that had come before them yet failed to be honoured by the awards show.
