ITV This Morning star Sian Welby has new perspective on life after baby’s birth
Capital Breakfast’s Sian Welby has opened up about her newfound “new perspective” on life after the birth of her daughter Ruby.
The radio presenter and her partner, Jake Beckett, welcomed their first child in June, and now five months later, Sian is loving every bit of motherhood despite the challenges. Chatting away at Capital’s Jingle Bell Ball with Barclaycard, the 38-year-old shared some candid parenting experiences.
She said: “Like any parent at the minute at this time of the year, she’s been ill, she’s had a cold, I’ve been sucking snot – it’s not been very glamorous, and I’ve not had much sleep as normal, and you’ve still got the 4am alarm for work”! She continued, expressing her joy: “However, it’s been just amazing, and I’ve just enjoyed every moment, really – even those tough days, it’s just given me a whole new perspective”.
Sian has kept her fans and listeners informed of her pregnancy since she first announced it in February, including providing details on an emergency C-section after failed attempts at a water birth. The This Morning guest host feels a strong bond with her audience, and alongside co-hosts Jordan North, 34, and Chris Stark, 37, they’ve created a family-like connection with their listeners who are keen to know how little Ruby is getting on.
Sian expressed her joy as she explained how her viewers on Capital have closely followed her from pregnancy to motherhood with the birth of her child, Ruby. “What’s been amazing for me is the listeners from Capital saw me through the whole pregnancy, and then through the birth, and then while I had Ruby, they’ve been on that journey with me”.
She expressed her gratitude towards the public’s interest in her life, saying, “I honestly, genuinely, get stopped in the lift or in the street, and people ask, ‘ How’s little Ruby? ‘” According to Sian, “And it’s lovely that people feel like they know me, and they ask after her, and I feel like that’s what our show has become – a real family but also like a friendship where people do feel like they know us, and we feel like that about them as well.”
Now at five months old, Ruby’s antics are a source of delight for Sian, who revealed, “The Dancing Fruit – if you know, you know”! She added, “She just loves bouncing. She’s this kid that loves to bounce on anything, she’s got a bouncy seat”. Sian is thinking about adding more ways to make Ruby laugh as she looks ahead: “I’m going to try to get her one of those things that you hang in the door in the way you just spring up and down.”
