‘It’s like I’m going back in time’ – Neymar agrees Santos return
Neymar has agreed to sign for Santos in Brazil after playing for his former team, saying, “It feels like I’m going back in time.”
Brazil’s record goalscorer, 32, is expected to sign a short-term deal at the club where he began his career.
The forward has already agreed to end his seven-game injury-hit spell with Saudi Pro League side Al-Hilal, which he did before signing for a £77.6 million deal in August 2023.
He stated in a social media video on Thursday that he would sign the Santos contract after “I just can’t hold it in until tomorrow.”
For a long time, I’ve been hoping that this dream come true.
“It’s been more than 12 years since I left but it seems like it was yesterday.
” My feelings for the club and fans have never changed. “
Neymar attempted to travel to the United States, but he was turned down by Major League Soccer (MLS) side Chicago Fire, who instead chose to go back to Santos.
Neymar’s move to Paris St-Germain in 2017 left him as the most expensive football player in the world.
He came through the famed youth system at Santos, where he scored 136 goals in 225 games, before a high-profile move to Barcelona in 2013.
Before making his world-record move to PSG as a 25-year-old, he made 186 appearances in total over the course of four seasons in Spain, winning two La Liga titles, the Champions League, and the Club World Cup.
Prior to his move to Saudi Arabia, he won five league titles in Paris.
