Israeli forces resume Gaza ground assault, seize part of Netzarim Corridor

As a result of a ceasefire between Hamas and Israel, Israeli troops have resumed ground operations in the besieged Gaza Strip, regaining control of a significant land corridor, and continuing a extensive bombardment of the besieged enclave.

On Wednesday, the Israeli army announced that its forces had retaken control of the Netzarim Corridor in order to “create a partial buffer between the north and south of the Strip.”

After more than a year of fighting, Israeli troops withdrew from the corridor that divides Gaza, allowing civilians in central and southern Gaza to reclaim what had been left of their homes in the north.

Hani Mahmoud, a journalist in Gaza City, reported on how the reoccupation of Netzarim will prevent Palestinians from gaining access to the area’s free movement.

The Israeli military presence in the area resembles a ground invasion, according to the statement. The statement from the Israeli military makes this clear. According to Mahmoud, it will serve as a starting point or launching point for the occupying forces to launch military operations there.

More than 400 people were killed on Tuesday when Israel resumed its bombing of Gaza, accusing Hamas of refusing a new ceasefire under which many of the 59 remaining captives in Gaza, the majority of whom are believed to be dead, would be freed without Israel agreeing to end the conflict.

Israel earlier this month slowed all aid deliveries into the Strip and cut electricity to the enclave to pressure Hamas into accepting the new deal.

Hamas urged Israel to adhere to the original ceasefire, which was signed in January, and which stipulated that the two parties would negotiate the release of the prisoners, a permanent end to hostilities, and the withdrawal of Israeli forces from Gaza.

When international parties acting as guarantors have a signed agreement, why do we need to present proposals? According to Taher al-Nono, the head of the Hamas political bureau’s media adviser, Al Jazeera.

A Security Council resolution of the United Nations is also present. All the efforts made toward us have had a positive impact. Netanyahu, the prime minister of Israel, has criticized the agreement. Netanyahu was the one to ignore it. Therefore, Netanyahu should be subject to pressure, not Hamas or the opposition.

If Hamas was not ejected from Gaza on Wednesday, Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz threatened to escalate the offensive. He declared, “Israel will act with a intensity that you have not seen.”

According to Gaza health authorities, dozens of people were killed on Wednesday in one of the Israeli air raids, including a UN employee who was killed in an attack on a UN compound in the center of the country. Israel claimed to have attacked Hamas targets in central Gaza.
