Israeli attacks target Palestinians across Gaza amid ceasefire talks

In addition to ongoing negotiations to reach a truce in the besieged territory, dozens of Palestinians have been killed and injured in recent Israeli attacks in the Gaza Strip.

About 40 people were hurt by Israeli bombardment north of the Nuseirat refugee camp in central Gaza on Monday, according to medical sources told Al Jazeera Arabic. Casualties, including children, were also reported in the al-Mawasi area near Khan Younis.

The Palestinian Civil Defense reported that it recovered the bodies of two people who had died in an Israeli bombing in Nuseirat and another in Khirbet al-Adas, north of Rafah.

The death toll from the war in Palestine rises to 45,854 as a result of earlier information from the Gaza Health Ministry, which had earlier been reported on Monday.

Since the Israeli occupation of Gaza in October 2023, dozens of Palestinians have been killed daily there. Additionally, it has imposed a suffocating blockade on the area, causing the region’s entire population to flee.

Palestinians who are already battling hunger and lack of medical care are suffering even more as a result of the harsh winter conditions.

Eight Palestinians who have been displaced in recent weeks have died as a result of severe cold, according to the Gaza Government Media Office, with the number likely to rise as a result of dire circumstances in the area.

The office said in a statement that “we hold the Israeli occupation completely responsible for the worsening humanitarian conditions in the Gaza Strip as well as the American administration and nations that have supported and participated in the genocide.”

It demanded urgent intervention from Arab and Muslim countries and international organizations to save Gaza’s civilian population.

The World Food Programme (WFP) claimed on Monday that Israeli forces had opened fire on one of its convoys the day before.

It described the shooting, which did not result in casualties, as “unacceptable”.

The World Food Programme expresses its condolences for the horrifying incident that occurred on January 5 when Israeli forces shot at a clearly marked WFP convoy near the Wadi Gaza checkpoint, seriously affecting our staff’s lives and immobilizing the vehicles, according to a statement from WFP.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his former defense minister Yoav Gallant are facing arrest warrants from the International Criminal Court (ICC) for allegedly committing war crimes in Gaza, including using “starvation as a means of warfare.”

Diplomatic efforts have continued to work toward a ceasefire agreement that would allow the release of Israeli prisoners held by Hamas and other Palestinian groups in the wake of the violence and humanitarian crisis in Gaza.

In the first stage of the deal, which would also allow Israel to release an unnamed number of Palestinian prisoners, Hamas officials told a number of media outlets on Monday.

How many of the Israelis who were initially on the original list are still alive are a mystery. Since the start of the war, Hassa has claimed that Israeli bombardment has resulted in the murder of several captives.

Israeli media reported on Monday that Hamas’s proposal-making process was being delayed while Mossad’s head of state, David Barnea, was waiting to finalize the deal.
