Is Europe dream a reality for Bournemouth?
Fans sang about European qualification when Bournemouth defeated Manchester United last month at Old Trafford.
The Cherries’ impressive form was furthered by their Saturday victory over Everton, but they have every chance of making a dream come true.
With the win, the Premier League team is now seventh in the table, just three points off the top four, and have eight games without losing.
“Nobody really likes coming to play us here and every home game we go into it thinking we can win”, Bournemouth’s matchwinner against Everton, David Brooks, said.
“We have to just keep our feet on the ground and continue to play game after game.”
Can ‘ little Bournemouth ‘ really secure European football?
The Cherries have only increased since Andoni Iraola took over as manager in June 2023, and their statistics under his leadership this year are impressive:
Twelve years ago, Bournemouth played in the third division of English football, but they have spent more time in the Premier League than away from it.
Their focus is on European football, not just making up the top flight’s numbers.
Owner of Bournemouth, Bill Foley, recently stated to BBC Sport, “Our goal this year is modest.” Can we advance to the top eight or nine, or even smuggle into Europe?
Our real objective is to compete in Europe, giving our players a chance to experience it and having fun with little Bournemouth.
What are the other contenders’ current circumstances?
Prior to recently, Chelsea had been touted as potential title contenders with the Blues having already risen to second place.
The club’s players kept playing that down, perhaps because they have failed to win their previous four games in the Premier League, drawing with Everton and Crystal Palace, and losing to Fulham and Ipswich.
” Two weeks ago, three weeks ago, we were talking about the title race, “Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca said after Saturday’s draw with the Eagles.
” So it’s for me, it’s not about the table. It’s just about seeing how we can improve things. “
With Saturday’s win at Tottenham, Newcastle’s fifth Premier League victory in a row, despite an inconsistent start to the season, they appear to be making strides.
Manchester City, who are sixth, are showing signs of coming through their awful run of form after Saturday’s win against West Ham made it back-to-back wins in the Premier League.
We haven’t attained our level in a long time. After the Hammers win, City Manager Guardiola declared, “We won, I am so happy and it helps us.”
You can’t ask me if the old City is back, but I’m very pleased with the outcome. If you saw the game, we are not. “
Aston Villa’s Saturday victory over Leicester boosted their ambitions for Europe.
Unai Emery’s side inspires a club like Bournemouth in many ways after realizing their own dream last year by placing in the top four to win the current Champions League campaign.
After drawing at home with Brighton, “We are challenging to be in the top 10, top eight,” said Emery.
