Ireland win by 63 runs
In the one-day Test against Zimbabwe in Bulawayo, Ireland won by 63 runs thanks to Matthew Humphreys’ seven-wicket match record.
Zimbabwe fought for 292 runs on day 5, but they needed 109 more to win. Humphreys’ left-arm spinner Newman Nyamhuri was dismissed for only five runs.
Crucially, Humphreys then bowled Wesley Madhevere for 84, a major blow to the hosts’ hopes of stumbling down the Irish record.
Zimbabwe still needed 73 runs to win, but they only added 10 more before Andy McBrine’s dismissal of Richard Ngarava earned Ireland their third successive Test victory.
Four months after their first Test victory over Afghanistan in Abu Dhabi, the Irish defeated Zimbabwe in Belfast in July.
Ireland’s most recent victory looked unlikely as the Irish fell 31-5 going into the match, but McBrine’s unbeaten 90 and 78 from Mark Adair gave them a chance to regroup and maintain a largely unbroken lead for the rest of the match.
