Reality star couple Pete Wicks and Maura Higgins’ romance has reportedly come to an end after a series of stormy rows, before they ever went public.
The pair are said to have known each other for six years but only started dating in 2024. The pair remained coy when quizzed about their romance but never denied they were dating. Rumours ex The Only Way Is Essex hunk and former Love Island star were dating began to swirl last year as the Mirror revealed they shared a smooch at the Pride of Britain Awards in October.
Maura then posted a steamy TikTok video of the pair practicing a dace move – which involved Pete holding on to Maura’s leg as she lay on the floor before pulling her up into a standing position, the couple then shared a hug before Maura raised her arm and turned to the camera. The post sent fans into a spiral as one fan commented: “Are they together?,” while another asked: “Oh my god did ye just kiss love this” and a third said: “Kinda obsessed”.
Maura first revealed details of her relationship with Pete on I’m A Celeb last year, while Pete was competing on Strictly Come Dancing. Maura kept details of their romance close to her chest as she was quizzed by campmate GK Barry on dating in the spotlight.

Maura opened up about the media’s fascination with her romantic escapades, remarking: “I get it in a sense because I know I was on a dating show, but it was five years ago.” She recounted an incident where she was questioned about dating former TOWIE star Pete and responded: “You know more than me! No, I’m single. People can date and not be in a relationship and take things slow.” Maura went on to add: “What’s the point in getting them involved too soon, when you just don’t know where it’s gonna go, you know?”
Without naming Pete explicitly, but shedding more light on their romance, Maura revealed: “Well we’ve already been papped, tongues down each other’s necks and we had no idea!” After Maura left the jungle and Pete Wicks left Strictly, the pair continued to keep details of their romance under-wraps – but this just fuelled more questions from fans and fellow celebrities on their relationship status.
Appearing on an episode of Loose Women last month, Maura Higgins opened up about her love life with Pete and discussed the current series of Love Island: All Stars. Maura was adamant that her dating show days were behind her and revealed she had turned down All Stars in the past.
Later in the interview, fellow panellist Frankie Bridge directly asked: “Is there anything going on with Pete?,” to which the studio applauded and gushed that they make a lovely couple. Maura responded: “Do we? I never really thought about it. He’s got better hair than me to be fair! There’s not really much to tell, I know that’s very boring, we’ve known each other for what, six years?

“We spend time together, we get on very well, our personalities are very very similar and he’s a great person but there’s actually nothing to tell. There’s really not though, no one believes me, there’s not!”
Talking about being pictured with Pete, sparking even more romance rumours, Maura insisted that it’s just because they’re both in the public eye and some of their friends, also in attendance, weren’t pictured as they’re not in the public eye.
Meanwhile, Pete also faced questions about his relationship with Maura in January as he appeared on the We Need to Talk podcast, hosted by Paul C. Brunson. Asked to define his relationship with Maura on the podcast, Pete told his former Celebs Go Dating colleague Paul: “Maura and I have known each other for a long time now. Well, I say a long time – about six years. […] We have the same sense of humour. She’s super intelligent, y’know that is something people sometimes don’t realise about Maura. She’s incredibly witty and we have always been there for each other for the past six years at a distance.”
Pete also joked during the podcast that Paul is the only person that has managed to get as much detail about their relationship as the Celebs Go Dating and Married At First Sight expert is a good friend of Pete’s. The TOWIE star’s best mate Sam Thompson, who recently split from his longterm girlfriend Zara McDermott, weighed in on the couple’s romance.
Sam admitted he doesn’t know much about the couple’s relationship status as he told Closer Magazine Pete “keeps his love life quiet” but revealed he is happy for the star and has noticed a change in his pal. He said: “He keeps his love life quiet, even from me. I actually know more looking at the press than I do looking at Pete.
“I’ll ask him a couple of cheeky questions, but he’s very quiet about it all because that is his private life, and I respect that massively. What I will say is that I have never seen Pete in such a good mood.”
After months of speculation about their romance, small hints of love from the pair and coy comments about their status, it has been reported they have called it quits on their budding romance. A source now told MailOnline: “Maura and Pete have decided to call off their romance. There have been a few clashes, and it was eventually agreed they were better off as friends. Those closest to them know it’s been a very on and off relationship, which is why they were so resistant to go public in the first place.
“They remain close and share a deep connection.” A friend added: “You never know with Maura and Pete, the attraction is so strong that you wouldn’t rule out reunion at some point – even in the short term.”
