The first four episodes of Prime Video will debut exclusively on Thursday (March 20), and the final two episodes will debut on Thursday (March 27).

It’s the latest show for the comedian, who began his career in 1997 and eventually cemented himself on Channel 4 with 8 out of 10 Cats Does Countdown and My Big Fat Quiz of the Year.

Jimmy Carr leads a peaceful life with his family despite having issues with his health and father in addition to his stand-up career.

What else do we know about his life besides his contentious jokes and career?

Jimmy Carr was diagnosed with a life-threatening infection as a child and was “close to death.”

Jimmy Carr, 52, has been honest with his health.

The 52-year-old comic was diagnosed with meningitis as a toddler, leaving him ‘close to death’ due to the immense toll it took on his body.

Jimmy was only three years old when he was taken to an Irish hospital and treated for the infection. Thankfully, his body was strong enough to recover, but Jimmy still vividly recalls the agonizing thought of dying so quickly at such a young age even after more than 48 years. After going through the ordeal, the star discovered an incredible appreciation for life and good health.

Jimmy said, “You’ve got to be cruel to be kind,” in a conversation on the podcast Where There’s A Will, There’s a Wake with Kathy Burke. My mother thought it was funny when I said that, in my opinion. When I was a child, I had meningitis. So, the first thing I recall is a Limerick general hospital lumbar puncture. I believe I was three when I… It was always said to be “very close to death.”

The doctor kind of said, “It’s going to be very painful. ” And when a little child said, “You’ve got to be cruel to be kind,,” I suddenly heard the phrase. And I kind of admired that aspect of life because I was constantly told, “Oh, you almost didn’t make it.”

In Farnham Common and Gerrards Cross, Buckinghamshire, Irish parents gave birth to Jimmy. Nora, the comedian’s mother, passed away in 2001 from pancreatitis at the age of 57.

It was around this time that the funnyman says he stopped speaking to his father. In 2022, his dad took things to the next level when it was revealed by the Mirror that Jim Carr Sr was set to sue his son for defamation.

After reading his son’s book Before and Laughter, which was released in 2021, Jim Carr Snr, who has been separated from his son for more than 20 years, planned to call in the attorneys.

The family’s attorney said at the time, “Jimmy’s last wish was to bring his own son to court, but enough is enough.”

He has grown weary of the false portrayal of himself that is being made. Years have passed since Jimmy’s disparaging remarks about his father.

When he mentioned his father on a podcast in 2021, he said, “You know the line, My mother’s dead and my father’s dead to me,” which sounds very cold until you meet the guy.

Inside Jimmy Carr’s tax saga

Jimmy Carr’s tax arrangements were “morally wrong,” according to Prime Minister David Cameron.

Jimmy’s involvement in a tax avoidance scheme attracted significant scrutiny back in 2012. He later apologized and called it a “terrible error of judgment.”

Jimmy accepted his debts and said, “I was publicly shamed for tax avoidance, and it was very clear what I had to do: say sorry and pay it back. I didn’t have to….

“It was as if I’d been on PAYE all the way through. I did that, and then people took the p**s, which is the modern equivalent of being in the stocks. I took a tomato to the face from Sean Lock.”

On 8 Out of 10 Cats, Sean Lock made the joke that, “I think you’re more prepared than Noah,” “We all like to put a little money away for a rainy day.”

Since their 2001 meeting, Jimmy and Karoline Copping have been deeply involved, but they are not legally married. Karoline, a Canadian-born journalist for Channel 5, and Karoline met during an audition for a television show in 2001.

The couple has two children, including a son named Rockefeller, who was inspired by both the billionaire business magnate John D. Rockefeller and the American billionaire.

Jimmy responded to a question from Radio Times about whether he thought fatherhood had softened him, “It might be a little gearshift, given the comedy I do.”

“But I’m still telling the same jokes, and I’ve always had the same sense of humor. We’ll see, because I’m certain that I’ll be writing a lot about him. I believe he might be deductible under the law.
