In Silent Witness, actor David Caves reprised his role as Jack Hodgson, who played the lead. Fans pleading for more as producers make hints about a 2026 return date as the 28th season’s finale airs tonight.

During his nine years on the show, David, 46, has amassed a legion of fans who are rooting for his on-screen romance with Dr Nikki Alexander, played by Emilia Fox. However, David can be found at home with his wife and two children when he isn’t on the show.

Very little is known about David’s private life because he typically avoids using social media. He is, however, thought to be married to Associate Finance Manager Verity Cunningham, with the pair having tied the knot in 2019.

Silent Witness actors arrive for press launch
Tonight (PA) on BBC One will stream the Silent Witness finale.

Although he keeps his family and marriage completely out of the public, he confirmed that his wife was expecting a second child in January 2023. He stated to Alex Jones that the new addition would arrive “in the next few weeks.”

He and Lisa Dillon, a fellow actress, were previously linked, and they co-starred in the 2012 RSC production of The Taming of the Shrew. The Northern Irish actor made his Silent Witness 16th season small-screen debut in 2013 and made a big break.

After graduating from the prestigious acting school London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art (LAMDA) in 2005, he had spent years in the theater. He starred in productions like The Beggar’s Opera at Regent’s Park Open Air Theatre

David’s role in Silent Witness soon led to parts on the big screen, including the 2014 epic war film, Ironclad: Battle for Blood, and the 2016 biographical drama film Jackie, which starred Natalie Portman as former First Lady, Jacqueline Kennedy.

But surprisingly, his early career was very different to his new acting ventures. He spent a year teaching in France before graduating from the University of St Andrews in 2002. He eventually made the decision to pursue acting.

David revealed that while studying, he wasn’t drawn to academic subjects while speaking about his childhood during a 2016 guest lecture at his old school. “I was rubbish at maths but enjoyed rugby”, he said.

Some people seem to believe that joining the pathology team would be a natural job for me, but it would be a disaster. Really rubbish at school, really rubbish in the sciences.

David told an interviewer that his parents were shocked when he explained to them that they had always wanted to be an actor. They were surprised by my choice despite all the effort they put in, all the encouragement they received, all the money spent on fees, uniforms, and other things, but they never once gave up on me.

Additionally, David is a steadfast favorite of the Silent Witness fans. The final two episodes of season 28, titled ‘ I Believe in Love’, have been released on BBC iPlayer.
