Inside David and Victoria Beckham’s turbulent marriage from affair rumours to separate lives

Over the course of their 25 years of marriage, David and Victoria have experienced some ups and downs. The couple tied the knot on July 4, 1999, as part of their lavish wedding celebrations from last year’s silver wedding anniversary, in a lavish £750,000 ceremony.

The glam event saw 230 guests, including celebs like Victoria’s Spice Girls bandmates and David’s Manchester United teammates, descend on an Irish venue that reportedly cost nearly £ 1 million. And despite many thinking the marriage wouldn’t last, Posh and Becks have gone on to build a £455million fortune while parenting their four children—Brooklyn, Romeo, Cruz, and Harper.

Cross-country move

After David signed a four-year deal with Real Madrid, the Beckhams moved their lives. David admitted in their 2023 Netflix series BECKHAM that Victoria “wasn’t too happy” about the news.

Despite having two young children and being determined to find suitable schools for them before making the big move, the fashion designer claimed that Spanish football fans viewed her as the “villain” because they didn’t move with David right away. As David relocated to Spain, the couple had separate lives for a while.

Detailing the moment David shared the news of their relocation in the documentary’s third episode, Victoria said she replied: “What do you mean we’re going to Spain”? Victoria added: “I was like, what do you mean? We don’t have anywhere to live, and we don’t have schools for the children. What do you mean? However, we moved to Spain in reality.

When asked about the move, Victoria said it was “less than ideal”. David opened a four-year club career with a winning Spanish Super Cup on his home debut against Mallorca.

Affair rumours

The couple’s relationship was exposed in 2004 when David’s personal assistant sold her account to News of the World to claim that she had dated the football player in 2003. Rebecca Loos and the football star had a verbal altercation at a group dinner, she told Sky News’ Kay Burley in her first TV interview after the story broke.

“The chemistry between David and I was so strong that everyone was aware and people weren’t happy, obviously, because I was being very unprofessional and he’s a married man”, she said. He simply kept staring at me until it became clear to me that I did want to return with him.

She once claimed that she had slept with him, but she later claimed that she felt “used” and that she had returned because “there were still feelings there.” She added that she “adores” the footballer.

Opening up about the allegations in the Netflix documentary, Victoria said it was a “nightmare”. David has consistently refuted allegations of the affair.

Near misses

Victoria and David’s third baby was born on February 20, 2005. Cruz Beckham was born at the Madrid Hospital Ruber Internacional with the couple still residing in Spain.

Victoria revealed David almost missed the birth in their Netflix documentary, despite having a scheduled C-section appointment. Even though Victoria claims she told him the day before his plans, he claimed he had a Pepsi advertisement shoot with JLo and Beyoncé.

The former Spice Girl said, “What do you mean, a shoot”? David told her: “Yeah, I’ve got to do a shoot with Jennifer Lopez and Beyoncé”.

Victoria responded, “I was like, ‘ Are you.. ‘ Seriously, I’m about to burst, I’m on bed rest. You kidding me, aren’t you? You have a gorgeous Jennifer Lopez photo shoot that isn’t going to be planned.

Divorce rumours

The Beckhams’ split announcement was rumored to start in June 2018. However, the couple’s spokesman described the rumors as “fake social media news.”

Documentary woes
