Injured Cummins set to miss Australia’s ICC Champions Trophy bid

Coach Andrew McDonald says that paceman Josh Hazlewood and Australia captain Pat Cummins are both “hugely unlikely” to compete in the Champions Trophy because of injury.

Cummins also has an ankle issue, so he skipped his second child’s test match against Sri Lanka.

On February 19, the Champions Trophy will be held in Pakistan and the United Arab Emirates.

“Patty is hugely unlikely, which is a bit of shame, and we’ve also got Josh Hazlewood, who is battling]to be fit] at the moment”, McDonald told the radio station SEN on Wednesday.

“We’ll be able to shore up that information and let everyone know the direction,” as the article states. “So that medical information will land over the next few days.”

Cummins’s absence will leave the Australians searching for a captain for the one-day tournament.

Vice captain Mitchell Marsh, who skippers Australia in Twenty20s, had already been ruled out of the eight-nation tournament because of a back injury.

The Sri Lanka Test team has coached Steve Smith.

“Pat Cummins hasn’t been able to resume any type of bowling so he’s heavily unlikely, so that would mean that we do need a captain”, McDonald said.

“We’ve been talking to Steve Smith and Travis Head as we’ve been developing that Champions Trophy team with Pat back home,” said Head.

” They’ll be the two that we look at for that leadership post. “

Due to side and calf strains, Hazlewood was only allowed to play two Test matches against India in the most recent series.
