The 50-over competition’s winners will face off in Dubai on Sunday, with India and New Zealand taking home the Champions Trophy semifinal spots early in the standings.

South Africa finished second in Group B, will face the loser of Sunday’s game, and will face the winner of the group stage’s final game.

India will come into the match after a six-day game break since their victory against Pakistan.

Between the most recent group game and the semi-final scheduled for Tuesday in Dubai, only one day will pass. In fact, injuries and player workloads were the subject of a lot of the conversation prior to the game.

What is the India team news?

According to the team, India’s skipper Rohit Sharma and Mohammed Shami are both ready to face New Zealand.

Rohit and paceman Shami left the field for a brief period in India’s previous victory over archrivals Pakistan, posing a doubts about their respective fitness.

“There’s no real concerns about anyone missing games, as far as I know”, wicketkeeper-batsman KL Rahul told reporters before the New Zealand clash.

Rahul claimed that all the players had been working out and training, and that nothing was wrong.

Shami, 34, recently recovered from a lengthy injury layoff and recorded 5-53 in India’s opening win over Bangladesh.

But against Pakistan, he seemed to have some trouble with his ankle as he went off for some treatment only to return later and bowl, much to India’s relief.

Before the New Zealand game, India’s captain, Rohit Sharma, left, and Mohammed Shami, right [Francis Mascarenhas/Reuters] were the two main injury concerns.

With his deputy Shubman Gill briefly leading the team, Rohit also left the field, and some TV pundits speculated that the captain had a hamstring strain.

Rohit returned and also batted in his usual opening slot to hand India a quick start in his 15-ball 20.

Any concerns about Rohit’s fitness were dismissed by Indian assistant coach Ryan ten Doeschate.

“He’s fine,” he said. You can see he’s batting, he did a little bit of fielding earlier”, ten Doeschate said. He has a previous injury, so he knows how to handle it very well. And he is the one.

Shami has been India’s go-to bowler in the absence of pace ace Jasprit Bumrah, who failed to recover from a back injury and missed the eight-nation tournament.

Rest is not a problem, in my opinion. How do you support the two games? If we bowl second, for Shami bowling 10 overs and to possibly do it again in 36 hours could mean a lot of workload”, said ten Doeschate.

“Rohit will have to manage that on the field to prepare for the first semifinals.”

What news is available for the New Zealand team?

Stalwart top-order batsman Daryl Mitchell has declared himself fit to face India after missing the win over Bangladesh on Monday because of illness.

Mitchell said it was “undoubtedly disappointing” to miss the final game due to being a little crook.

“It’s nice to be back with the group now, get out of the hotel room, and participate in training,” the group said.

” It’s another game of cricket that I’m just really excited to represent our country in, and it should be good fun come Sunday. “

In Rawalpindi, Rachin Ravindra, who had just recovered from a concussion, took Mitchell’s place in the starting batting order for the Black Caps and recorded a stunning 112 against Bangladesh. More than any other New Zealander, it was the opener’s fourth three-figure ICC tournament score.

Coach Gary Stead is therefore presented with something of an embarrassment of riches in the batting department, even if he has suggested he might rest players carrying niggles for the India match.

Where could India or New Zealand win the game?

The pitch in Dubai has been sluggish with spinners playing a part. Kuldeep Yadav of India defeated Pakistan to take three wickets.

Off-spinner Michael Bracewell returned a 4-26 score in their previous win over Bangladesh in Rawalpindi, and New Zealand’s spin force has also excelled.

Ten Doeschate, a former Netherlands and Essex all-rounder, said the Sunday clash could turn out to be a battle of spinners.

“Yes, I believe so,” she said. Additionally, they’ll have four spinners. So, it could be a contest of spin, “said ten Doeschate.

We didn’t anticipate such a high spin-topping in the opening round, but the guys have bowled well and the pitch has a little helped.

What chance does New Zealand have of provoking India in Dubai?

Returning New Zealand batter, Mitchell, said the fact that a variety of different batters were making decisive interventions in matches was a definite plus.

When the circumstances call, you do your job for the team, he said, “we pride ourselves on doing that,” he said.

Over the next few games, I’m sure another group of hands will stick their hands up, hoping to win the games.

Why are India not playing their matches in Pakistan?

Instead of Pakistan, the host nation of the 2025 edition, playing all of India’s matches in the UAE, with the exception of a potential final. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and the International Cricket Council (ICC) agreed that both countries would play all ICC events that were held in either country at neutral venues until 2027, following which the agreement was reached.

What are India and New Zealand’s records in the Champions Trophy?

In the previous edition of the Champions Trophy, India won twice, winning in 2002 and 2013 and losing in the final to Pakistan. The trophy was presented in 2000 to New Zealand, who entered the tournament fourth in ODI cricket.

What were India and New Zealand’s pre-tournament chances?

India made a lot of the effort in their opening game against Bangladesh despite being clearly labelled favorites, especially given that they played all of their matches in Dubai. The century of Towhid Hridoy was a game of it. India, however, laboured in the chase and, but for Shubman Gill’s century in pursuit of 229, could have been in deep trouble.

Australia defeated Rohit Sharma’s team in the 2023 Cricket World Cup, but the victory of the 2024 T20 World Cup softened the blow.

India, Pakistan, and Australia were all anticipating the Kiwis’ Champions Trophy victory, so New Zealand was chosen as the team to beat the odds.

Their fitness and fielding standards have, as expected, been exceptional and have thrust the Kiwis ‘ regard to make them the main challengers to the Indians. However, that implies that they will need to defeat India in Dubai twice.
