Denim is probably the most popular material in my wardrobe, during both spring and the summer. I love denim jeans, and I’m always on the hunt for the perfect pair. Although I wear jeans most days, I’ve found myself finding them more and more uncomfortable, but I’m not willing to give them up just yet.

So when I spotted River Island’s “pyjama jeans”on the website, I knew I had to test them out to see if they could become my go-to everyday jeans. You may have seen Rag and Bone’s viral ‘sweatpant jeans’ on your socials, but at £195, that’s a pretty steep price to pay for essentially a pair of tracksuit bottoms.

However, River Island’s pair are far more wallet-friendly at £39. The Blue Wide Leg Pyjama Style Jeans, are made from a super stretchy denim that makes them feel like you’re wearing a pair of pyjama bottoms while looking like you are wearing a normal pair of denim jeans. They have an on-trend wide-leg style and feature an elasticated waistband that you can cinch in, as well as the classic four pockets usually featured on denim jeans.

I decided to wear this relaxed-style pair of jeans to the office and see if anyone noticed I wasn’t wearing “proper” jeans.

River Island Pyjama Style Jeans Review

My office’s dress code is pretty relaxed; we’re allowed to wear jeans and trainers, but I think turning up to work in full-on pyjama bottoms would be a bit too far. So I thought I would test this pair out to see if I got any weird reactions from colleagues asking why I’d decided to wear pyjamas into the office. No one even realised my jeans weren’t my usual denim.

I even received a few compliments on the flattering, wide-leg fit. And the best part was that I felt just as comfortable on my office outfit as I am on my work-from-home days when I can be a bit more relaxed in tracksuit bottoms or slouchy trousers.

I can definitely say it will be hard to go back to wearing normal stiff denim jeans after wearing these all day long. But luckily, I don’t actually have to because this pair is still made from denim and looks like denim, just a relaxed, stretchy version.

The only issue for me with these jeans is that I’m not a massive fan of the elasticated waistband. For me, this gives away the fact that they are more like stretchy trousers, rather than classic denim jeans. However, this is mostly down to personal preference and the bonus of the waistband is that you can tie it up and cinch your waist in to give a more figure-flattering shape.

If you want to test out Rag and Bone’s Miramar Wide-Leg Jeans (sweatpants jeans), they are available to shop on Anthropologie for £195. Alternatively, New Look has some Blue Drawstring Waist Denim Trousers for £26.99 that feel as comfy as trousers but have a denim-effect.
