Kebbi State governor Nasir Idris has issued a harsh warning and vowed to prosecute any parent found giving their child to child traffickers for financial gain.

The Governor made this statement while the governor was receiving nine children who had been rescued by the NAPTO (National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons).

At a ceremony held at Birnin Kebbi’s Government House, the children and their parents were reunited.

Governor Idris declared that the government would file legal action against anyone who participated in the trafficking syndicates, even to the Supreme Court, in the wake of the growing activities of trafficking syndicates, particularly in the southern regions of Kebbi State, with Zuru Emirate serving as a major target.

He demanded that NAPTIP be included in the security agency monthly allowances in order to advance the fight against human trafficking.

This, he said, would bolster the agency’s efforts to combat trafficking in the state.

Misbahu Kaura, the Kebbi State Commandant of NAPTIP, previously revealed that the rescued children had been deceptively taken from their parents under the false pretense of being sent to school.

Investigations showed that traffickers, with the help of local agents in Zuru Local Government, sold the children for amounts starting from ₦280, 000.

The Governor gave the commander thanks for providing a means of operational support for NAPTIP’s activities in the state.
