The 76th British Academy Film Awards takes place on Sunday at London’s Royal Festival Hall and will feature winners from a host of top movies, many of which are already available to watch on streaming sites like Netflix and Prime Video.
There are 42 films nominated for awards this year, with the Robbie Williams biopic Better Man, Pixar’s animated Inside Out 2 and the Hugh Grant-starring horror Heretic among those winning a nomination. Seen as an indicator of which movies may go home with Oscars at the Academy Awards on 2 March, the BAFTAs are a highlight of the film calendar, and this year stars including Demi Moore, Succession’s Kieran Culkin, Ralph Fiennes, and Cynthia Erivo are expected to walk the red carpet, while David Tennant returns to host the awards for the second time.
“It’s a lark! The night went past in a bit of a blur last year, but it was so much fun,” he says about hosting the star-studded ceremony. “It feels like a real privilege to be part of it, and to get another crack at something so exciting is a real joy. I also didn’t want anyone to think I hadn’t been asked back, so I thought I’d better say yes! Luckily this is not what I do for my day job – if it all goes wrong I’ll just go back to pretending to be other people.”

Conclave is still in cinemas but is also available to rent or buy on streaming sites like Prime Video, Apple TV and Sky Store.
The film received the most nominations this year, including Best Film, Best Actor and Best Supporting Actress. Ralph Fiennes stars as one of the cardinals at the Vatican taking part in the election of a new pope in the drama based on Robert Harris’s bestselling novel, while Isabella Rossellini is Sister Agnes, the cardinals’ housekeeper.
Where can I watch Anora?
Anora is still in cinemas and available to rent or buy on streaming sites.
Described as a very dark alternative to Pretty Woman, Anora tells the story of a young sex worker, played by Mikey Madison, who marries the son of a Russian oligarch. The movie has seven nominations, including Best Film, Best Actress and Best Supporting Actor for Yura Borisov.

Emilia Perez is currently on Netflix.
The most controversial movie to be nominated this year, Emilia Perez is a Spanish language musical crime film about a Mexican cartel leader who hires a lawyer to help them disappear and transition into a woman. Zoe Saldana and Selena Gomez star alongside Karla Sofia Gascon, who has been under scrutiny recently for past social media messages . The film has also been criticised in Mexico for its casting, as very few Mexican actors are in featured roles, and for cultural stereotypes in the movie.

Where can I watch Dune Part Two?
Dune Part Two is available to buy via Apple TV, Prime Video or Sky Store.
Director Denis Villeneuve’s follow up to Dune picks up the story of Paul Atreides as he joins the Fremen people of the desert planet Arrakis to wage war against House Harkonnen. The sci-fi epic stars Timothee Chalamet, Zendaya, Rebecca Ferguson and Josh Brolin and is nominated in seven categories including Best Director.

The Substance is available on streaming service Mubi, which you can access via Prime Video.
Demi Moore is unforgettable – and hotly tipped for an Oscar – as the fading TV star trying a new drug (the substance of the title) to halt the ageing process with unexpected side effects in this body horror. As well as Demi’s well-deserved nomination for a Best Actress BAFTA, the movie is also nominated for Coralie Fargeat’s direction.

Wicked is still in cinemas and available to rent or buy on streaming sites.
The second part of the Wicked story will be coming to cinemas in November, and in the meantime the cast can celebrate seven BAFTA nominations, including ones for Costume Design, Best Actress for Cynthia Erivo, Visual Effects and Make up and Hair. It is, of course, the movie adaptation of the stage musical that tells the origin story of The Wizard of Oz’s Wicked Witch and her former friend, Glinda the Good, played by Ariana Grande.

At the present time, The Brutalist is only in cinemas.
Well over three hours long, this drama has been shown in cinemas with a 15 minute intermission. It’s the story of a Hungarian-Jewish Holocaust survivor, played by Adrien Brody, who goes to America with the dream of reuniting with his wife and daughter and also building a career as an architect in his new country. The movie is nominated in nine categories, including Best Film, Best Actor, Best Supporting Actress for Felicity Jones and Best Director for Brady Corbet, who Thunderbirds fans may remember as Alan Tracy in the 2004 movie reboot of the classic puppet series.

Where can I watch Kneecap?
Kneecap is available for free on Prime Video.
Kneecap is based on the true story of an Irish hip-hop trio from Belfast, with the band’s members playing themselves in the infectious film. Filmed in the Irish language, it is nominated for Best Original Screenplay, Best Film Not in the English Language, Best Casting, Best Editing, Outstanding British Film, Outstanding Debut for writer/director Rich Peppiatt, and deserves to take home at least one prize on the night.

A Complete Unknown is currently only in cinemas.
The story of Bob Dylan’s early years as a musician from his early folk success to his adoption of electric instruments in 1965, this biopic stars Timothee Chalamet as the singer-songwriter. It has six BAFTA nominations, including one for Timothee, Best Film, and for Supporting Actor Edward Norton, who plays musician Pete Seeger.

Robert Eggers, who made The Lighthouse and The Northman, directs this gothic horror movie based on the 1922 classic. Bill Skarsgard is the vampire Count Orlok, while Nicholas Hoult is the young man who inadvisedly travels to his spooky castle. Shot in black and white, it is atmospheric stuff and BAFTA nominated for five awards including Cinematography and Production Design.

Wallace and Gromit are back and so is their nemesis, penguin Feathers McGraw, who fans will remember from 1993’s The Wrong Trousers. The claymation movie, featuring cheese-loving inventor Wallace and his wise and weary dog Gromit is nominated for three awards including Best Animated Film and Best Children’s and Family Film.

This science fiction animated weepie is about a robot who is shipwrecked on an island and becomes the adopted parent of an orphaned goose, and is simply adorable. Lupita Nyong’o, Pedro Pascal, Kit Connor and Mark Hamill are among those supplying the voices. The movie has three nominations including Best Animated Film and Best Children’s and Family Film.
