Houthis claim missile launch at Israel amid renewed fighting in Gaza

Days after the Israeli army revoked a ceasefire in Gaza, the Yemeni group claimed that the Houthis have launched a hypersonic missile at Israel’s Ben Gurion airport.

Houthi spokesman Yahya Saree stated on Thursday that the Yemeni armed forces conducted a qualitative military operation using a Palestine-2 hypersonic ballistic missile to attack Ben Gurion airport in the occupied Jaffa region.

Without going into further detail, he claimed that the operation “successfully achieved its objective”. This was the second time the United States had launched an additional airstrikes against the rebels earlier this week.

The missile was intercepted by the Israeli military before it entered Israel’s territory early on Thursday, according to the statement. After the projectile was fired, sirens rang in several locations in Israel, according to a post on Telegram posted by the military.

In Tel Aviv and Jerusalem, according to the Israeli police, sirens were audible. No serious injuries have been reported, according to Israel’s ambulance service.

Since Saturday, the US has launched numerous strikes against Yemen, and the Houthis have declared that they will launch additional attacks, including against Israel. At least 31 people have been killed in the US attacks.

In retaliation for Israel breaking the ceasefire in Gaza, the Houthis announced on Tuesday that they had fired a ballistic missile at Israel and would soon launch an additional range of targets.

At least 710 Palestinians have been killed and more than 900 others have been injured as a result of Israel’s recent attacks, according to Gaza’s Ministry of Health.

Since Israel’s war with Gaza began in late 2023, the Houthis have launched more than 100 attacks on ships, declaring their solidarity with Gaza’s Palestinians.

Trump, the president of the United States, reiterated on Wednesday that he had warned Iran against ending its support for the Houthis and that Washington would defeat them.
