Hollyoaks star Ali Bastian ‘doesn’t feel like a fighter’ as she shares cancer update
Ali Bastian, the star of Hollyoaks, shared a health update with fans, revealing that sometimes she “doesn’t feel like a fighter.”
The actress was diagnosed with stage two breast cancer last month, and last month she told supporters that she was “total shock.” The 42-year-old claims to have received weekly chemotherapy and radiotherapy treatment before masturbating and receiving chemotherapy in the spring of next year.
When Ali, her daughter Isabella, was breastfeeding her, she discovered a lump and competed in the seventh season of Strictly Come Dancing. Initial doctors speculated that the tumor might have been a blocked duct, but when antibiotics failed to stop the discomfort, she went to a specialist clinic where tests revealed the cancer.
Ali shared a photo of herself with a grey shirt and hair wrapped around her head in a recent social media update. She said: “Some days you don]’t] my feel like the fighter people tell you you are, and that’s ok too. This is not an easy path. They are better out than in, and there is cortisol in tears.
Last month, she told OK! Magazine about the diagnosis. She said: “It was a total shock. I have mornings when I wake up and I’ve forgotten… and then suddenly I remember. I’m still attempting to process it. When Ali told her husband, David O’Mahony, “I was with the kids, and she pointed her head round the door and said cancerous cells had appeared in the biopsy.”
She said it so that the girls wouldn’t tidge their twigs. She was incredibly terrified and shocked, I could see. Although it’s tempting to try to “be positive” your way through this news, it just hit us like a hammer. I just thought Ali had been dealt this hand because it was so unfair.
Ali, who appeared as Becca Dean in Channel 4 soap Hollyoaks from 2001 to 2007, moved from London to rural Ireland with their two daughters, Isla and Isabella, and partner David earlier this year. She shared her experience with her major burnout on Instagram, citing challenges that came with her second pregnancy and life in London as just two reasons she moved.
Before her devastating cancer news came in June, she had exuberantly discussed living in her home with a view of the ocean on the West Coast of Ireland.
