Hocus Pocus star unrecognisable 31 years after iconic Halloween film released
Hocus Pocus star, Stephanie Faracy, looks unrecognisable 31 years after the film was released.
The Halloween favourite, which is in cinemas again, stars Stephanie, now 72, as Jenny Dennison, known for her daring red bodysuit and Madonna-inspired cone bra after her character re-located from Los Angeles to Salem.
The cult classic, which also stars Bette Midler, Jenny, and on-screen husband Dave, makes a trip to a party but ultimately succumbs to the witchy Sanderson sisters’ spell casting.
The actress, who also appeared on the Netflix series Nobody Wants This, was greeted on the red carpet in 2022 and greeted the pneumatic Jenny from a distance. Although still blonde, Stephanie looked much more demure, sporting a shoulder-length bob and elegant tweed jacket.
Talking about Jenny’s classic Blonde Ambition era look in Hocus Pocus, the film’s costume designer Mary Vogt told Bustle: “It was supposed to look slightly homemade. I look at that now and I’m embarrassed, it looks so cheesy”. She continued, adding that Stephanie was “tempted to steal it” because she loved the outfit.
The popular Hocus Pocus trio, which portrayed the evil siblings in the first movie, returned for the sequel, Hocus Pocus 2, in which the Sandersons are unintentionally raised once more to wreak havoc on the world.
Jenny’s character, who was saved from the spell at the end of the first movie, did not reprise her role in the spin-off despite wowing fans with her racy look in the first movie.
While gushing about the success of the first film, Bette noted that the sequel had been a “real surprise” earlier this year.
Fans were eager to hear about updates on the project when it was revealed last year that a third movie was in the works. During a guest appearance on SiriusXM radio in the US, Bonnet teased that it is being “very gently” being worked on.
While on the Jess Cagle Show, she commented: “Now they’re kind of talking about a third – very gingerly and very gently. They are. They’re talking about a third. I thought… the second one was a huge success”.
She also spoke about the success of the first movie, which has since become a cult classic in the years that followed. “We didn’t know that it was going to be a hit”, the singer admitted, adding: “It was a real surprise to all of us when it took off. Television was the cause of its essor, and we had to wait for years to catch up. Years passed before we realized this was such a massive cult classic.
