Glasgow Warriors: (7) 7
By defeating Glasgow Warriors at Twickenham Stoop, Harlequins advanced to the last 16 of the Investec Champions Cup.
After a clever team move, Chandler Cunningham-South opened the scoring from close range, before James Chisholm dipped his hands over the flanker after the powerful surge.
Glasgow responded with a flowing move that Tom Jordan had already scored from the post with a home tie in the last 16.
Moments later, the visitors were almost in control, but Quins winger Cadan Murley leapt high to intercept the ball as it was being thrown wide.
The next points were needed for the Quins until the 68th minute when Murley ran clear after a clever turnover to turn defense into attack in a drab second half without cutting edge.
Job done for Quins against high-flying Warriors
Quins’ chances of winning the previous game were in doubt due to Toulon’s defeat.
The visitors had to win to keep their fate in their own hands, so they started brightly with Marcus Smith’s wide kick, who had just beaten the Glasgow defence, before Cunningham-South made his England Six Nations debut with the opening try.
The flanker’s direct running, which he did all night, made the next try for Chisholm, who tucked the ball under his arm and tipped over the line.
Sione Tuipulotu, who is doubtful for Scotland’s Six Nations campaign due to an injury in training, arrived at the Stoop after finishing second in the United Rugby Championship (URC) and making it to the last 16 in Europe.
Seb Cancelliere fed the ball to Murley on the outside for Jordan to slither under the posts, as did his replacement in the starting XV, Stafford McDowall.
Before the break, Quins was able to regain momentum, but Oscar Beard in the build-up ruled out Ben Waghorn’s try, which would have been his first on his full European debut.
Although the second half was more of a dull affair, Quins threw the ball wide for Murley to scamper clear and score their third try as Huw Jones was given no possession.
