The Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF) has since expressed its gratitude to President Bola Tinubu for supporting the four tax reform bills that the National Assembly has currently rejected.
Persecondnews is aware that the bills were criticized as being anti-North by Northern governors.
The President praised the governors for their brave leadership and commitment to fostering national unity when they made comments on their stance.
The Special Adviser to the President for Information and Strategy, Mr. Bayo Onanuga, described the NGF’s endorsement as a “commendable example of cooperation between the federal and state governments” in a statement released by Mr. Onanuga.
He praised Thursday’s productive consultation between the NGF and the Presidential Committee on Tax and Fiscal Policy as an excellent illustration of federal and state government cooperation.
He also praised Governor Abdulrahman AbdulRazaq, the Governors’ Forum’s chairman, for gaining his fellow citizens’ support for the tax bills.
The goals of the tax reform bills, which include the Joint Revenue Board Establishment Bill and the Nigerian Tax Bill 2024, are to reform the way of doing business and generate revenue in Nigeria.
The bills are expected to promote national interests, improve the competitiveness of Nigeria’s economy, and attract both local and foreign investments.
