Abba Yusuf, the governor of Kano State, joined 22 House of Representatives members and nine members of the state’s House of Representatives in officially defecting to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
At a political gathering held on Monday at the Government House in Kano, the governor made the decision.
Governor Yusuf addressed party leaders, lawmakers, and supporters at the event, stating that the decision was the result of extensive consultation with state-wide elected officials.
Nine out of the House of Representatives members and 22 of the 24 members of the Kano State House of Assembly have decided to join the APC, according to Yusuf.
He explained that the action was intended to promote state development and improve governance.

“We’re deciding to work together rather than polarize.” The governor stated that political parties are vehicles that aim to bring about positive change in Kano’s citizens. “Consider this choice based on the good works we do for Kano’s citizens.”
APC leaders from the party’s former leaders, Abdullahi Ganduje, Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Barau Jibrin, and House Committee on Appropriation, Hon. among others, is Abubakar Kabiru Bichi.
The Kano State APC Chairman, Abdullahi Abbas, praised the unprecedented defection as bold and historic in response to the development.
“This is a courageous choice,” the statement read. Governor Abba Yusuf will remain committed to the party as he joins it, according to Abbas.
Senator Barau Jibrin, the deputy president of the Senate, also urged his supporters to support the governor.
He urged all of my supporters to back Governor Abba Yusuf, urging them to support him so that we can work together to advance Kano State.
Former APC National Chairman Ganduje praised Yusuf as a progressive politician and welcomed the governor and the lawmakers.
“Governor Abba Yusuf is a progressive politician who belongs to the APC.” He will continue to lead the party in Kano State, according to Ganduje.
“Every party leader and member is with him to the full.”
