Gov Bago Bans Heavy Trucks On Dikko Bridge After Niger Tanker Explosion
Niger State Governor, Mohammed Bago, has banned heavy-duty trucks from plying the Dikko Bridge, following the fatal tanker explosion on Saturday.
The governor who was present at the explosion site advised drivers to avoid the bridge and make a U-turn when approaching from the Maje axis.
He expressed grief over the tragic loss of lives, described the incident as pitiful, and thanked God for preventing other communities from being affected by the tragic incident.
Bago demanded that the Federal Government take action right away to finish the Minna-Suleja road because the road project has been delayed and has already ended in many lives.
He demanded that the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC)’s sector commander establish a detachment there to ensure that the directive was followed, and he also demanded that all relevant transport unions work with the corps.
The governor thanked the Niger State Emergency Management Agency, fire service, FRSC, Union of Road Transport (NURT) among other agencies that have contributed to the evacuation of victims.

He stated that Minna Hospital doctors will be moved elsewhere to care for the injured victims at Suleja General Hospital.
The devastating incident, which has since caused the neighborhood to be in mourning and raised questions about safety measures in the area, claimed 77 lives.
According to Abdullahi Baba-Arah, the director general of the Niger State Emergency Management Agency (NSEMA), 25 injured victims were rushed to various hospitals in Suleja, Wuse, and nearby health facilities for urgent medical care, according to the director general of the Niger State Emergency Management Agency (NSEMA).
The northern region of the nation has experienced a recent tanker explosion before, which is not the first.
In October, more than 170 people died in a similar incident in Jigawa State.
