League leaders Gloucester-Hartpury have secured their place in the Premiership Women’s Rugby play-offs thanks to a comfortable 38-7 win over Leicester Tigers.
The victory, combined with Loughborough Lightning’s surprise 31-22 win over top-four chasing Bristol Bears, means Gloucester cannot be caught by the Bears, who sit in fifth.
Saracens defeated local rival Trailfinders Women 31-17 to move up to second place in the standings ahead of Harlequins, who face Exeter Chiefs on Sunday (12:45 GMT), thanks to a May Campbell hat-trick.
Gloucester are five points clear of Saracens and eight points ahead of Quins in terms of try scoring with five different players, including a penalty try, in their match.
Before a penalty try gave Gloucester a 19-0 lead at the break, Meg Davies and Carmen Castellucci both crossed.
Claire Gallagher’s length-of-the-field try helped Leicester win the match, but Gloucester responded with Hannah Jones, who scored the bonus point, before Kathryn Buggy’s replacements and Gillian Boag also crossed.
