‘Global Trust Earned’, Tinubu Hails Okonjo-Iweala’s WTO Re-Appointment
Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, the former Coordinating Minister for the Economy and Finance, was congratulated by President Bola Tinubu on Friday for winning the WTO’s director-general election.
The renowned development economist and expert on global finance became the first African and first woman to lead the 164-nation WTO in 2021.
She will serve until August 31, 2025, while her second term will begin on September 1. She will serve as the WTO’s seventh director general.
The Nigerian leader applauded Dr. Okonjo-Iweala’s unanimous appointment for a second four-year term as president fordemonstrating her leadership’s commitment to advance multilateral trade and sustainable global development.

In the coming four years, President Tinubu is confident that her continued leadership will advance the international economic organization’s position as a pillar of inclusive global economic growth and good governance.
