Gene Hackman’s daughter lifts the lid on his ‘wonderful marriage’ with Betsy Arakawa

Gene Hackman’s daughter Leslie has gushed about his “wonderful marriage” with musician Betsy Arakawa.

Police said there were no obvious signs of foul play after the couple and their dog were discovered dead at their home on Wednesday afternoon. A number of mysteries have been revealed in the search warrant that was recently executed by police at the scene, including whether Gene, 95, fell.

He had been married to Betsy, a classical pianist, since 1991. Betsy was Gene’s second wife, after a three-decade marriage to bank clerk Faye Maltese ended in 1986. He had three children with Faye, including Leslie, who paid tribute to her father on Thursday.

Leslie described Gene and Betsy’s bond as a “wonderful marriage”. She said: “I give credit to his wife, Betsy, for keeping him alive. She (Betsy) took very, very good care of him and was always looking out for his health. I am appreciative to her for that, and I’m very saddened by her passing”.

Leslie is reportedly planning to travel to New Mexico once the police release more details. She continued, “We must wait and find out whatever information the police have.” We didn’t anticipate having to leave the house and all that. So we must do some work. But yeah, we’ll be going out to New Mexico”.

Gene’s nephew, Tim Hackman, also shared his grief. When asked by reporters if Gene had had any major health issues, Tim, 51, said: “I mean, he was old. I’m sure he had some]health] concerns, but nothing that was shared”.

Tim’s mom Barbara Hackman was married to Gene’s brother, Richard, a stuntman who died 11 years ago. The last time Tim saw Gene was at his father’s funeral, he told Mail Online. Tim continued: “Eleven years ago was the last time I physically saw him. He only traveled to California during the sweltering months before settling down in New Mexico.

The family members’ comments come as the full scope of the police investigation into the mysterious deaths of Gene Hackman and his wife for the first time are exposed, along with the alarming questions that officers must answer.
