GB’s Nicholls & Patten beat mixed doubles top seeds

With victory over the top seeds, British duo Olivia Nicholls and Henry Patten defeated the top seeds to reach the Australian Open mixed doubles quarter-finals.

In just 69 minutes, Nicholls and Patten defeated Andrea Vavassori and Sara Errani to claim a 6-3, 6-4 victory.

The Italian duo won the US Open in September, and Errani and Jasmine Paolini shared the same Olympic gold in Paris last summer.

In the final eight, Nicholls and Patten will square off against Russian-American duo Irina Khromacheva and Jackson Withrow or Hsieh Su-wei and Jan Zielinski.
