Melissa Courtney-Bryant of Great Britain won the World Athletics Indoor Tour Gold meeting in Boston this year in the fastest 3, 000-meter time in the world.
The 31-year-old, a two-time European indoor bronze medallist over the distance, finished in a new personal best of eight minutes 28.69 seconds – just over a second ahead of American Elise Cranny.
The Welshwoman is now the fastest Briton ever to surpass Laura Muir’s time of 26.41, making her the second-fastest Briton ever.
Georgia Bell, a medalist in the 1500-meters at the Olympics, came in sixth place with a time of 8:36.96, one place ahead of compatriot Hannah Nuttall, who also set a new time record (8:40.01), who also set a new record.
Elsewhere, Dina Asher-Smith finished second to her training partner Julien Alfred -the Olympic 100m champion and 200m silver medallist – in a 300m event.
But 2022 world 1500m champion Jake Wightman, who was due to continue his comeback after missing last year’s Paris Olympics through injury, missed his 1500m, posting on social media that his body had “not dealt very well” with travel to America.
