GB win World Cup bobsleigh silver in Innsbruck
Following a sensational second run in Innsbruck, Great Britain came in second place in the most recent round of the four-man bobsleigh World Cup competition.
After the first run on the Austrian track, pilot Brad Hall and British team-mates Taylor Lawrence, Leon Greenwood, and Arran Gulliver advanced from third place to silver by one hundredth of a second.
The GB four-man finished third in as many events, following up a bronze medalist at St Moritz and gold at Winterberg, and it did so after Greg Cackett, who was the usual team member, was injured.
With Greg being injured, we had to make changes to the crew, so it was a big plus to have two really strong starts and two really strong drives when this team has never combined to compete.
The British sled finished third, just ahead of Johannes Lochner, who was the leading German team, 0.28 seconds behind defending champion Francesco Friedrich.
At the halfway point of the season, Friedrich’s winning time of one minute, 40.45 seconds strengthened his position in the standings overall.
The two-time Olympic gold medallist in the four-man event moved to 885 points after four rounds, extending his lead over second-placed Hall to 66 points, while Lochner is third.
