Gavin and Stacey star breaks silence on Dave Coaches spin-off
As the beloved series Gavin and Stacey wrapped up with a heart-tugging finale last month, Melanie Walters, who portrays Gwen, has opened up about the buzz surrounding a potential spin-off featuring her character.
Melanie Walters, known as the lovable Gwen from Gavin and Stacey, was being interviewed by host Natalie Cassidy about the possibility of hosting her own show on the latest episode of Off The Telly: “If someone said to you we’re going to make Gwen and Dave’s In the house, would you do it”?
Melanie tantalised fans with her cryptic reply, offering a non-committal “I don’t know, I don’t know”.
Throughout the series, Melanie’s alter ego was the epitome of selflessness, but in the show’s climactic episode, viewers cheered as Gwen finally embraced her own desires, sparking a romance with Dave Coaches, brought to life by Steffan Rhodri.
After the final episode aired last month, Melanie revealed that another cast member was still interested in a Gavin and Stacey reunion despite being coy about the idea of a spin-off with her on-screen beau, according to Wales Online.
Joanne, co-presenter of the Off the Telly podcast with EastEnders icon Natalie, shared: “Anytime anybody asks Larry (Lamb, who plays Gavin’s dad Mick Shipman) though, he always goes ‘ yes, of course! ‘”
The sitcom, which debuted in May 2007 and quickly gained acclaim, quickly gained a devoted following and gained immediate success. After only a year, the show’s second installment and the release of its third, concluding series were largely due to its popularity.
Last month, Gavin and Stacey, beloved BBC sitcom created and co-starred by James Corden and Ruth Jones, finally concluded in a poignant special Christmas finale, leaving a lasting impact on its viewers.
Opening up about the filming wrap-up on Graham Norton’s show, Corden reminisced about how one cast member, namely Joanna Page, felt deeply moved on the final day: “Everyone was there at the end with lots of crying. Joanna, who plays Stacey, cried a lot. There were lots of goodbyes. It was very emotional”.
