NEW YEAR MESSAGE TO NIGERIANS
Fellow Nigerians,
I wish everyone a happy and prosperous New Year as we approach 2025. May you be rich in joy, success, and good health.
As the new year dawns, it brings many hopes, aspirations, and prospects for better days. 2025 will be a year of great promise, in which we will fulfill our collective aspirations, by God’s grace.
Although 2024 presented numerous difficulties to our citizens and households, I’m confident that 2019 will bring more positive days.
Our nation’s future is bright and encouraging, according to economic indicators. We have experienced three consecutive quarters of foreign trade surpluses and gradual decline in crude prices. Foreign reserves have risen, and the Naira has strengthened against the US dollar, bringing greater stability.
The record-breaking growth of the stock market has created trillions of naira worth, and the surge in foreign investment is a sign of renewed confidence in our economy. However, many Nigerian households were still concerned about the cost of essential medications and food in 2024.
Our government will work harder to reduce these costs in 2025 by promoting local production of essential pharmaceuticals and other medical supplies. Our goal is to lower inflation from 34.6% to 15%, which is our main goal. We can accomplish this goal and help all of our people, with diligent work and the help of God.
In order to boost national economic output, my administration will further consolidate and expand access to credit for people and crucial economic sectors.
The National Credit Guarantee Company will be established by the federal government to expand risk-sharing options for financial institutions and businesses.
The Company—expected to start operations before the end of the second quarter—is a partnership of government institutions, such as the Bank of Industry, Nigerian Consumer Credit Corporation, the Nigerian Sovereign Investment Agency, and Ministry of Finance Incorporated, the private sector, and multilateral institutions.
This initiative will boost the financial system’s confidence, increase credit availability, and help underserved populations like women and youth. It will drive growth, re-industrialisation, and better living standards for our people.
On a personal note, thank you for placing your confidence in me as your president. Your trust humbles me, and I promise to continue serving you diligently and wholeheartedly.
We will continue to implement the reforms that are necessary to promote our country’s prosperity and long-term growth.
As we work toward our one trillion-dollar economy, I always ask for your assistance and cooperation. Let us stay focused and united.
We are on the right track to creating a fantastic, inclusive Nigeria. Let us not get distracted by a tiny segment of our population that still sees things through the prisms of politics, ethnicity, region, and religion.
CITIZENSHIP
We must become better citizens and pledge unwavering support for Nigeria in order to accomplish our national goals and objectives.
The Renewed Hope Agenda’s success depends largely on people’s moral convictions and beliefs in our country. In 2025, we will commit to promoting adherence to ethical principles, shared values, and beliefs under the National Identity Project.
In the first quarter of 2025, I’ll unveil the Federal Executive Council’s National Values Charter. I’ll launch a bold national orientation campaign that encourages nationalism, national pride, and national pride. The Charter will promote reciprocal commitments between the government and its citizens, as well as foster trust and cooperation among our diverse population and citizens.
Our reforms, however radical and fundamental they may be, can only be achieved by a shared sense of humanity’s values and identities and unconditional love for our nation.
Our commitment to youth inclusion and investment as nation-builders will be demonstrated by the first quarter of 2025 when the Youth Confab will begin. The Ministry of Youth will soon announce the modalities for selecting the conference’s representatives from our diverse, youthful population.
Dear Compatriots, I urge you to continue believing in yourselves and keeping faith in our blessed country.
Let me use this message to urge our governors and local council chairs to collaborate closely with the government to advance our country by utilizing the fresh opportunities in agriculture, livestock, and tax reforms. Governors who have introduced CNG-fueled public transportation have embraced our Compressed Natural Gas initiative. I want to congratulate those who have switched to electric vehicles as part of the transition and energy mix of our country. The states will always receive the assistance that the federal government requires.
To all citizens, your sacrifices have not been in vain over the past 19 months. They won’t be in vain, I can assure you, even in the upcoming months. Together, let us stay the course of nation-building.
We’ll be closer to the promising future we all want, as well as the Nigeria of our dreams.
God bless you all, and may God bless our beloved country, Nigeria.
Happy New Year and a prosperous 2025 to you all!
Bola Ahmed Tinubu,
Federal Republic of Nigeria’s president
