Fubara’s Aide Says Assembly Complex Almost Completed, Blames Wike For Pipeline Attacks

Governor Siminalayi Fubara, governor of Rivers State, has been suspended, strongly refuting allegations that he failed to stop militant attacks on oil installations.
Nelson Chukwudi, the chief press secretary to Fubara, described the allegations as being untrue and the result of misinformation provided to the president by people who were not expected to provide accurate reports.
Chukwudi claims that Fubara has continued to be unwavering about his commitment to safeguarding the country’s essential oil infrastructure.
He noted that Nyesom Wike, the minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), made some defamatory remarks during a media interview that sparked the recent upheaval in the Niger Delta.
He claimed Wike allegedly minimized the Ijaw ethnic group’s influence in national politics, causing fierce protests from Ijaw leaders, youth organizations, and militants, some of whom demanded an apology from the minister.

Chukwudi emphasized Fubara’s ongoing campaign for the protection of oil installations.
He brought up Fubara’s prior contributions to the Presidential Committee on the Protection of Oil Installations and his frequent public appeals for regional peace and stability.
Governor Fubara, a reputable leader, has invested heavily in security organizations by providing state-wide law enforcement with modern tools, vehicles, gunboats, and even helicopters, the statement read. Since taking office on May 29, 2023, his unwavering commitment to peace has resulted in an increase in oil production and revenue for the nation.
State Assembly Complex
Chukwudi explained that the decision was based on expert recommendations when addressing concerns about the State House of Assembly Chambers’ demolition in Port Harcourt.
He recalled that Wike had personally condemned the facility’s deteriorating condition during his time as governor and dismissed government requests for assistance.
He claimed that the Rivers State Government began reconstruction efforts after the October 29, 2023 incident, which saw the project almost 80% finished.
The statement also cited Fubara’s commitment to stability as evidenced by the peaceful local government elections that took place on October 5, 2024.
However, it condemned violent assaults carried out by allegedly FCT minister-linked individuals on council secretariats.
Chukwudi urged security forces to look into the real perpetrators of state violence and to refute misguided accusations made against Fubara.
