France To Reimburse New Implants For Breast Cancer Patients

Breast cancer patients no longer have to pay out of pocket after having a mastectomy for implants or medical tattoos.

After the Senate approved it in October, the lower-house National Assembly later approved a bill for social security that would cover more of the cost of breast cancer treatment.

Yael Braun-Pivet, the speaker of the Parliament, revealed this month that she was receiving hormone therapy and had been diagnosed with breast cancer three years ago.

Many patients choose to have a breast removed after undergoing a mastectomy, which involves implant reconstruction.

While this implant can remain in place for many years if&nbsp, there are no problems, &nbsp, some women need a replacement.

Under the bill, the state will fully reimburse any new breast implant, a medical tattoo of the areola and nipple, or an adapted bra to wear afterwards.

In general, these measures aim to improve mental well-being and body-image restoration following breast removal.

By incorporating social security to account for the higher fees that some doctors have requested, the legislation further aims to lower the costs of initial breast reconstruction.

Until now, extra costs meant that 15 percent of patients could not afford to have a breast removed, said Yannick Monnet, the Communist lawmaker who presented the bill to parliament.

For women with lower incomes, this amount exceeded the average patient’s own pocket budget by paying an additional 1,400 euros ($1, 460) in extra fees and other related care.

Social Security will also pay for the costs of psychological care, physical therapy, and anti-dryness creams and nail varnish, as well as the new law’s new law.

According to the World Health Organization, 670, 000 women died of breast cancer in 2022, the most common form of cancer among women in most countries.
