After revealing his retirement from diving, Olympic medalist Daniel Goodfellow says now is the ideal time to “start something new.”

The 28-year-old Britishman is a two-time Commonwealth Games champion and won bronze in the men’s 10m synchro competition at Rio 2016 alongside Tom Daley. He also won a gold medal in the team competition at the World Championships in Doha last year.

Writing on Instagram, he said he realised “how fortunate and privileged” he had been to be part of such a successful era of British diving.

“I leave the sport with no regrets, and I hope I’ve inspired at least one person the way I was”, Goodfellow wrote.

After more than 20 years of training and competing, it seems like the right time to close this chapter and begin afresh. “It never seems like it will end when you’re living it.
