Former Spurs midfielder Brooke dies aged 64

Garry Brooke, a former Tottenham midfielder who twice played for the FA Cup-winning Spurs, passed away at the age of 64.

Following a lengthy battle with illness, the Premier League team announced on social media that it was “deeply saddened” to learn Brooke’s passing on Saturday morning.

At this extraordinarily difficult time, the statement read: “Our thoughts are with his family and friends.”

He recovered from a serious car accident in 1983 and continued to play in the Spurs’ early attempts to win the Uefa Cup during the 1983-84 campaign.

Brooke, who scored 18 goals in 101 games for Tottenham, spent a year on loan at Swedish side GAIS before making his Spurs debut.
